Sounds like they're getting close to flighting the next release. 10147 seems pretty solid, it wouldn't surprise me if it was that build.

They may even be prepping the RC, assuming they actually call it that.

The statement above says that the Insider program will continue even after the release on July 29th.
One thing that isn't mentioned is: will those , including myself, who choose to delay upgrading still be able to take part or will it only be for upgraders ?

The way I read it, Ken, is that once you update, you will be given the option to exit the Insider Program. If you don't exit, you're still an Insider and will continue to get new builds. Although they may not be called builds any more. *Smile Well, gotta have some speculation. *Smile

From what I understand is that all insiders will be upgraded to release. Then you get a choice if you want to be removed from the program or keep testing. I don't know if you will be able to delay upgrading to the release only time will tell on that.

Upcoming changes to Windows 10 Insider Preview builds

All Insiders running Windows 10 with their Registered Microsoft Account will get upgraded to the final release build of Windows 10 starting on July 29. If I am reading right, we won't be able to delay this upgrade. And why would we? *Smile We can just consider it a part of the Insider Program.

However, we are allowed to delay upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and 8.1 for up to one year after final release. That is one of the few concrete facts in this whole Technical Preview.

I hope your last post is correct, Wynona. I would love to stick with W7 and continue to see how W10 pans out via the insider preview over the next 6 -9 months before upgrading.

Ken, carefully read this thread's Post #1 by Shawn. It gives complete information. I've read it over at least twice, but would welcome a "second opinion". *Smile

I'm not poking at you but if more of us would read the complete articles Shawn (Brink), The Bee Man (labeeman), and John (z3r010) post, there would be a lot fewer wrong answers/thoughts/statements to questions in these forums. And I'm as guilty as anyone else of not completely reading and/or getting it wrong.

Yes, I read it ,Wynona. It seems that the 'final' release on July 29th will be 'just another flight' and that insiders will continue to receive 'further flights' I think it means that that's the RTM (they have to call a halt somewhere) but the show goes on - hope so anyway *Smile

So to say it another way, (I hope), let's say in my example that Build 10147 is the last build we receive before July 29th, that means we'll get the final release updating us from 10147 to Final Build. I get it, and that is good news,
    but:
    1. this is not the hard drive that I want the final build on so that means I'll need to activate and do a clean install on the drive of my choice....correct?
    2. What about the drive that I have Win 8.1 and I've already registered to get Windows 10...what happens there? I don't want it installing there, how will I prevent it from happening?

    Thanks,
    Greg

Lots of good news here and with luck this will resolve a lot of the confusion over the upgrade process. For me I'll just use Win10TP as my primary and go to the final release on the 29th. Then I'll get the ISO after the upgrade and do a clean install. A win win.. IMO.

Oh and I get to keep Win8.1 as a back up if I need it later on for some reason or for another PC.

Greg, if you reserved 10 on your Windows 8, you can go back to 8 and cancel the reservation.
    or
You will get 10 downloaded to your computer, but you can choose not to install it. You will not be forced to have anything that you do not want.
That is what we have as of Today.
