That has changed, see the tweet in post #85

Real simple If you do a clean install of build 10130, sign up for a Microsoft Account . Once upgraded to the release. You will be able to activate without any previous license and it will be genuine. Then you can download the release iso for a later clean install that will be pre-activated.

Yep if you are not using MSA you are in the same boat as any one else and need a W7 or W8.1 key.

This part in the quote that is in bold is a little concerning.

I don't remember that bit - and that text doesn't seem to be in the version that was copied and pasted in post 1 here:
Upcoming changes to Windows 10 Insider Preview builds

I sense that Microsoft's lawyers have woken up and asked for that extra text to be added.

Edit: Although you could argue (and I am most definitely not a lawyer so what I'm saying could be bunkum) that the upgrade from an Insider build is different to the 'free upgrade offer' from Windows 7 or 8.1, and so those conditions don't apply.

These tweets seem to say different though:

I'm assuming that the catch is this:

1 - Insiders who upgrade to RTM will be given the option to enter a valid 7/8.1 key to get upgraded. If they don't, then they are still under Insider licence terms, which means they'll lose access to Win10 whenever MS ends the Insider Program, and builds will only remain "genuine" for a few months, so Insiders will have to stay updated to remain Genuine (like they do now).

I expect in some way, Insiders will get to test Final, otherwise Gabe mite as well tweet "lol format and update Win7/8.1 or gtfo"

I just spotted another couple of edits in the text.

    The original said:
    Now it says:
All the stuff about activation has disappeared too.

There you go. Rename this thread boys, we're done.

Suggested title - Preview Program will continue past Windows 10 launch.

    No gifts for us ):

Kinda fun to imagine Gabe's conversations with the suits. They probably saw the tweet, called him into their office and said "nope".

Seems they're just dotting their i's and crossing their t's with this amendment. The following part makes me think it's still as we thought in that insiders will be getting the final release.

"As long as you are running an Insider Preview build and connected with the MSA you used to register, you will receive the Windows 10 final release build|"

Interesting that the activation part has disappeared but what use would it be to us un-activated?

Just wondering if we are reading too much into this although further clarification from Gabe wouldn't go amiss!

  12. I am going to wait and see, probably stick with the standard upgrade from 8.1 to 10

It seems to get more confusing (to me) the more I read about it
