Windows 10: Update 1709 failed when applying updates

So, I got 1709 update via Windows Update. Download and install went through.
After I got notification to restart to apply 1709 update, I restart, and applying update message shown, until 30%.
Then it restarts twice, then message "Reverting to previous version" shown. After auto restart, it gets back to 1703.
And repeat from beginning.
Help would be appreciated. I don't know where the logs are located, so I ask here.

My laptop (first spec) updated successfully, unlike my PC (second spec) with reason above.

can someone fix that failed 1709 the compuer reboots goes back to ugrade and failed after 81% applying update

 

Windows 1709 update fails because of UltraMon

When I try to install the 1709 update it fails because it thinks that I have UltraMon installed, but I don't... I've even installed UltraMon and uninstalled it, but Windows update still thinks it's installed and won't apply the update. How can I remedy this?

A way that is more likely to succeed is to head to the Media Creation Tool, download it, create USB key. Navigate to key and type setup.

As a side benefit of this process you wind up with bootable media.

This is a OS upgrade. Back up your data off machine, have bootable media that matches your version and create an Image with a product like Mwcrium Reflect.

The error is still same (went to 30% then reverts to 1703), but on the bright side, I can get the error code from this tool.

Here's the file log in folder C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther, maybe it'll give you some insights about what problem. -> setuperr.log (I can't give setupact.log file, because its too big (around 100MB))
And more in C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Rollback -> setupact.log & setuperr.log

I have the exact same error but with different make of computer. See my thread here. I am convinced the issue is graphics driver related. Search around and see it there is an updated driver or FCU beta driver for your system.

 

Mine's using nVidia as stated in my spec list, and both of my devices were using the same latest version.
Maybe it was other driver, I am not sure, so I just give the log, hoping that I can get the reason of error.

 

This is the only mention of driver in that log

CONX 0xd0000034 Failed to add user mode driver [%SystemRoot%\system32\DRIVERS\UMDF\uicciso.dll]

In reading google results and Bree's posting, disconnect all unnecessary devices, make sure you have latest driver for Dragon Mouse, maybe replace with plain mouse for upgrade, ensure you do update connected to net and accept the finding updates as part of process, disable secure boot and fast boot in BIOS. Rather than USB key create an ISO. Mount ISO and run setup from there.

Yes, I've been posting that link on a number of threads recently - it's a very useful reference that doesn't seem widely known about. Spread the word *Smile

 

Lots of folks jumping into this upgrade with not a lot of prep. No Images, no data backups. Just click and go.

The errors seem to repeat from last major upgrade, update outright fails, logins / users messed up and connectivity.
