    Update a dual boot Windows 7 32bit to Windows 10 64bit

    Hello,
I am currently using a dual boot PC with Windows7 ultimate(32bit) running along with Ubuntu 12.04.
I am planning to upgrade my PC to Windows 10 keeping the dual boot.
I also want to clean install windows 10 after the upgrade to switch it to 64Bit as I am planning to increase my RAM to 8GB.
Will I need to reinstall Ubuntu after clean installing windows 10 64bit?(I heard the windows boot-loader ignores Ubuntu after clean install).
And the main problem is if i can do clean install Windows10 without formatting my other drives except "Local disk:C" because I have a lot of files on them.
Can anyone give me a step by step guide for clean installing by formatting my current "C" drive only please...*Rolleyes
I want to keep my files on other partitions safe...

    :)

  2. I have a dual boot test machine with an Intel Core 2 CPU. In one partition I have 64bit Win 7 and in the other partition 32bit Win 7.

    <Original title: Upgrading Windows 7>

I have a dual boot test machine with an Intel Core 2 CPU. In one partition I have 64bit Win 7 and in the other partition 32bit Win 7.

I accepted the grade in 64bit and it went fine. But 32bit install tells me that the CPU is incompatible/wont work for Win 10?

This was using "Get Windows" retail downloads, (not insider program).

  3. windows 8 pro "upgrade" serial numbers valid to get windows 10?

    Answer:

    I have a 64bit machine running windows 10.

I also have a second machine which I installed windows 10 32bit as an upgrade to windows 7 32bit.

I thought and assumed that I would be given the option to upgrade from windows 7 32bit to windows 10 64bit with the free upgrade.

    This is NOT the case.

    The steps I followed are:

    a: Installed windows 10 32bit onto the windows 7 32bit machine

b: Create a microsoft account *** Email address is removed for privacy *** attach this account to the windows 10 32bit machine.

c: download the 64bit windows 10 iso using the "windows 10" installer on the 64bit machine

d: create the 64bit self booting DVD-ROM on the 64bit machine

e: you will be losing I assume everything on the 32bit machine because when you install the 64bit OS it will obliterate the old HD, so be prepared... this might not have happened. I can't remember.

f: boot the 64bit DVD-ROM in the 32bit machine, install windows 10 and it will be the 64bit because it is the 64bit disk.

g: you can now log into the "new" 64bit machine with your microsoft account, and the license should be transferred properly.

This is a silly way to have to do it, but it does work.

I really hope this can be clarified MORE CLEARLY and how to do this by Microsoft.

    Update a dual boot Windows 7 32bit to Windows 10 64bit

Be careful - clean installing Windows 10 will probably break the dual boot mechanism as it does not recognise Linux.

General advice is to start with a fresh drive, install Windows 10, then linux.

It can be done the other way, but no expert, especially as you already have Windows 7.

You should make a full image backup of your drives eg using Macrium Reflect Free which will backup Linux partitions as well.

Cant't I use the currently using hard disk partitions for reinstalling windows and linux?
What about just formatting"C" only, then install win10 on it and then reinstalling linux?
I dont care about linux because i dont have any important files in its partitions. So I am ready to format them.
But in windows I have a lot of very important files (but not in local disk C) and that is why I am asking if I can do these by not formatting other windows partitions...
I dont have enough resources(eg.An external HDD) to back up all my important files.
    So please help....

Windows won't know that Linux exists and will just overwrite the MBR and thus Grub will disappear. The Linux partitions remains unaffected.
Upgrading from within Win 7 or a clean install will just require adding Grub2 to the windows loader with EasyBCD - or if you prefer booting from Grub, re-installing it from LiveCD media.

Yes, when installing select "Install alongside Windows" - your windows partitions will not be affected as it creates it's own partitions.

Not possible to convert 32bit to 64bit - you have to back up data elsewhere and reinstall from scratch.

Now back to the first thing I asked.

What about formatting Local Disk C only ?

If I do so will my files in the other partitions survive?
    I need those files.
I have nothing important on C and I am ready to format it.
I am only concerned about my local disk E and F .
So I am not ready to format them .
Can I let them untouched during the installation?

You only need to install over C partition. Ny program installed on other drives may need to be reinstalled.
