Windows 10: Update Changed Office 2016 to 365 and Requires re-authentication

An update processed automatically on July 24, 2020 that changed the look and functionality of Outlook and requires re-authentication of Word, Excel, and PPT. Also re-labels them all as Office 365 instead of Office 2016. This re-labeling has occurred once before but I found support to reverse it. Now I have changes made to the underlying apps. Can this be undone?

Office 365 or Office 2016

I am having a similar problem. I have never to my knowledge indicated that I want Office 365 or an Office 365 "free trial"; I have Office 2016 installed on my laptop. The application list on the start menu does not include Office 365. However, Settings/Apps does indicate that it's installed. Today my system was co-opted by Office 365 Click-to-Run grabbing both disk and CPU; this has not happened before.

I bought this laptop two years ago, bought Office 2016 and installed it via Microsoft download as no installation media were provided. I uninstalled the annoying "Get Office" application at that time and have been a happy Word user until earlier today.

I don't know if this is relevant, but this behavior started right after Windows Update installed the August 14 cumulative update (KB4343909). No updates to either Office version appeared in update history.

My questions about how to deal with this situation are:
--Would the Uninstall option in Apps get rid of Office 365 entirely and leave Office 2016 in place and working?
--Is there an effective way to disable or stop Click to Run and keep it stopped?
--Should I change the update setting in Office to Do Not Update? I did try to look at the Office update history, but all I got was an Office 365 sign-in screen--useless because I don't have an Office 365 account.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

Insider Slow update for Office 2016 & Office 365 build 16.0.7466.2017

Update October 25, 2016: Now at Version 1610 (Build 7466.2023) for Current Channel (Office Insider Slow)

On October 17, 2016, we released the October feature update for Office 2016 to our Office Insider Slow audience. To get the update immediately, open any Office 2016 app and choose File > Account > Update Options > Update Now. After you install the update, you should be running Version 1610 (Build 7466.2017) or 16.0.7466.2017.

What's new in this release?

New features this month:

A new digital writing assistant: Watch for new visual cues and suggestions from Editor, a new service that offers advanced, contextual proofing to help you improve your writing. First, we've expanded Word's spelling and grammar tools to inform you why words or phrases may not be accurate--teaching at the same time as correcting. Second, we've overhauled Word's visual proofing cues so you can distinguish at a glance between edits for spelling (red squiggle), grammar (blue double underline), or writing style (gold dotted line). Since Outlook uses Word as an email editor, you'll see these new tools in email messages, too. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription. In addition, to use the feature, your proofing language must be set to English. Rest assured, we'll enable support for additional proofing languages soon.)

Summary cards for travel reservations and packages: In Outlook, verify and track travel reservations, as well as package deliveries, using summary cards automatically created in the Inbox and Calendar. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

Data transformations and connectivity enhancements: In Excel, you can now select to import related tables when loading data from OData sources, add custom columns with values coming from a function computation, or show the dependencies between queries using a dedicated view. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

Easy discover of third-party content: In Visio, browse or search for new templates and sample diagrams from select third-party content providers. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

Ink replay in Word & Excel: To understand what’s behind the ink you see in a document or workbook, click Draw > Ink Replay to rewind and replay the ink strokes. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

Shared with Me: Does this sound familiar? Someone shared a OneDrive file with you, but you can't find the email message that has the link. No problem. With this update, you can click File > Open > Shared with Me in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. This will show you all files that have been shared with you. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

We're listening: In Project, to suggest new features or tell us what you like or don't like, click File > Feedback. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)

Shape recognition: In Word, click Draw > Convert to Shapes. Then, draw a shape in your document, and Word will convert your drawing to a corresponding shape. (Feature requires an Office 365 subscription.)
