UPDATE: Clipboard gets overwritten while performing other actions on the computer- Solved

A follow up to this thread from a couple of years back locked, so I can't edit it:

I resolved this today. Turns out that the culprit was "Path Copy Copy" https://pathcopycopy.github.io/

I still don't know yet if it was a setting or a bug, but unisntalling it fixed the problem.

Perhaps it was related to this bug:

    https://github.com/clechasseur/pathcopycopy/issues/32

With the latest version 18 it's working normally again.

Thanks to those who offered input on this. It was perplexing.

Clipboard gets overwritten while performing other actions on the computer

I started becoming aware of this maybe early-mid way through 2018.

I would be copy-pasting stuff around, and sometimes content that I was expecting to be there, was not. I'd do it again- and it would work.

But this kept happening. To start with I convinvced myself I just had fat-fingered the keystroke. But this is not the case.

I used ClipClip to monitor the clipboard while I did a few things in File Explorer. And yes, the clipboard is definitely being overwritten, and NOT BY ME. This is a problem in Windows I believe; it didn't always do this.

At very least, if I use Ctrl-Shift-N to create a new folder, it seems to put the parent path text into the clipboard.

Also, if I right-click on a folder, I can see the same behaviour (but not always, I haven't worked out the exact conditions required for this).

A video demonstrating the problem can be found at

I'm totally surprised that nobody else seems to be fighting with this. Perhaps they assume it's "just me" too.

    Currently on 1809 / 17763.379

Clipboard gets overwritten while performing other actions on the computer

Let me clarify that: In ClipClip whenever the clip type is 'Text' then exactly that text pastes into Notepad, as expected.

When the type is 'File' then nothing pastes into Notepad, also as expected.

If I have general text on the clipboard, and right-click in a folder, the path of the parent folder OVERWRITES the copied text.

The trick is I cannot determine the exact steps to make it play up every time. Sometimes if I right-click in the folder the text is overwritten, sometimes not. If I switch to another window then back, then usually does it (the fault).

Ctrl-Shift-N seems to do it every time though.

Clipboard gets overwritten while performing other actions on the computer

    Hi Nikhar,

Thanks for the response. I can confirm that what you see in the video as appearing in the ClipClip list is what gets pasted as text in Notepad, i.e., it seems to accurately reflect the state of the clipboard.
