  2. Windows Update: Update 1709 - Problem in reactivation of damaged Dell Inspiron Video Card (7520)

    Hello,

I was able to solve the problem by uninstalling the damaged driver and starting in safe mode before the blue screen occurs, turning the device off again and restarting normally. For other users who are experiencing a similar problem, the following is a step-by-step
    guide:

    • Before restarting to apply the update, go to the device manager, right-click uninstall the damaged driver.
    • Continue to restart that the update prompted and wait for completion.
    • When the login screen appears after the upgrade completes, quickly: (before the blue screen occurs, otherwise the update will rollback to the previous version):
    • Restart your PC. When you get to the sign-in screen, hold the Shift key down while you select Power

      > Restart.
    • After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    • After your PC restarts, you'll see a list of options. Select 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Or if you'll need to use the Internet

    • After accessing the system in safe mode, you can simply go to the Device Manager and disable the corrupted driver as it was before the upgrade. After that restart your system normally and that's it.

  3. Should I update bios?

I would read the warranty before doing anything. If the manufacturer finds out you did something not on their approved list of steps, for example using a program they didn't list, or a bios, etc, they can treat your video card rma like you threw it against the wall , because if something goes wrong and you didn't follow their steps exactly ,it was damaged through human error and they're not likely going to be obligated to cover it warranty wise. I don't know for sure, I just advocate that you check first , and I also advocate that you verify that it's an actual update ,because very rarely do manufacturers release updates for gpu bios'. And they most certainly wont cover a GPU "update" if its a bios file written by some dude in the Ukraine, it has to be a set process, they have predetermined often.

Critical Service Failed - Automatic Repair and Advanced Options

    Update:
Tried the Repair disk. Still back to "Your pc ran into a problem", "Preparing automatic repair" followed by Advanced Options which have been tried again.

    Would anyone recommend:
    • bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
    • bootrec.exe /fixmbr
    • bootrec.exe /fixboot

Otherwise, I have a bootable Win PE file waiting to be burned on to USB key, as suggested by other Forum user, but unsure what to do with it when (or if) it boots up the laptop.
