Windows 10: update does not give feature update 2004 or later

I reinstalled windows10 on a latop...a Lenovo IdeaPad P560 over a year ago after the hard disk crapped out.


Per Control Panel, System, About as of now:


Edition: Windows 10 Home

Version: 1909

Installed On: 2/13/20

OS Build: 18363.1440


On the Update Screen, if I check history, it's regularly getting and installing updates to version 1909.


The most recent being:

2021-01 Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems KB4589211

Successfully Installed on 3/14/2021


So updates ARE working. On the main update screen, it's currently saying no updates are available and not even any optional ones since I do have it check regularly for updates and it does currently have all the 1909 updates.


But below it I says:


Feature update to Windows 10,

version 2004


The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on it's way. Once it's ready for your device, you'll see the update available on this page.

Clicking [Learn More] brings up a web page that has status as of February 3, 2021 that says that Windows 10, version 2004 is designated for broad deployment. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel.



Given that it's well past May 2020, 20H2 has already been released, and this other page says it's designated for broad deployment, is there something I can check to see what this machine isn't even being offered it still??? Is there's something about this machine that's getting a Stop for a "major" update that I can look for somewhere like incompatible drivers or something?


I don't want to force an update on it that will break the machine. However, on the other hand, it begs the question of why it's not being offered without any explanation that I can see. For a while I was seeing a message saying your version of windows is getting near the end of support. That message recently went away.

Windows Show Hide not hiding 2004 feature update

Show/Hide has always worked for me. Yesterday I had about 10 updates show. I want to install all BUT the 2004 Feature Update, so hid that in Show/Hide. It shows as hidden there, but when I check Windows Update again the next day, it is still listed. Normally, it would not be and all other updates would be. Now all are there and I do not yet care to install the feature update.

Any ideas / suggestions?

Disable installation of Feature Update 2004

About 2 weeks ago, version 2004 showed up on the Updates list and automatically installed. Upon completion of the install, the computer was completely unusable: no application would load; those that started would hang and eventually (5 minutes) fail. To
attempt to remove the update, I had to force a power off (mirrored drives really don't like that!) and then was finally able to use to Recovery under Updates to remove about 95% of the update. After the require restart and while checking what was or was not
working, Updates (of course) reinstalled 2004. Repeat: Recovery and Remove 95% (95% of 95% = 90% Usable). Attempting to use MS questions area, the only suggestion was to Disable the Updates Service which, of course, means no further security or usability
patches.

All of that overly long explanation is by way of saying: I have attempted the only other option given here for removing 2004. At the moment, the Update Service is Disabled (PS: if you leave it at Manual, it will eventually start up and 2004 will commence
its installation). So, the question: is there ANY way to disable the attempt by Update Service to install version 2004? I don't mean "install and wait for a couple of patches", I mean permanent tell Windows to NOT attempt to install 2004? My computer works
just fine without the feature updates and does not work AT ALL *with* the updates. Prior versions and other patches allow for the update to be Hidden and ignored; Feature Update 2004 will install if the service is running and there appears to be no way to
abort/hide/ignore the update.

Any suggestions??

 

Feature Update Win 10 Pro 2004

The Feature Update Win 10 2004 appears to have installed successfully on my computer.

It is listed in Settings, System, About.

However, the Update has wiped out all of my previous Windows Update, View Update History which is now blank.

Moreover, the Feature Update Win 10 2004 itself is not listed in Settings, Update and Security, Windows Update, View Update History.

Is this important?

And if so, how can it be repaired?
