    Update Failed 0xc1900101


    My 8 year old HP Ultrabook Pro has been kept up to date with all Feature and Quality updates and currently runs Windows 10 version 1903 which installed successfully on 25/09/2019. Three other PCs in the household have just been upgraded successfully to version 2004 but the update to the HP Ultrabook has now failed 3 times.


    I've read the 4 page thread at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-update-2004-error-0xc1900101/61dbd698-f5bb-43b7-9a32-b9c4a178f281 and come to the conclusion that it's a driver incompatibility problem, though in truth I have no evidence for this, just a hunch based on 35 years of PC use.


    I last tried the update in the early hours but now I have come back to the PC and found that the device considers itself to be up to date. Meanwhile the link to update to version 2004 has been removed from the Windows Update program.


    How do I perform a manual update, as obviously I can't leave it like this?

    Windows 10 fails to update


    When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

    Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

    I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.
