Windows 10: Update fails: "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems...

I searched for solutions to this problem, and found a question that posted an identical problem -- but with KB4574727 where mine showed KB5001028 – so I attempted to follow the directions to resolve the error.

First suggestion was to run the troubleshooter for Windows Update. I did so, and the troubleshooter reported back that corrections had been made and I should repeat attempting the Windows Update. I attempted another update, but received the same error message as in previous attempts.

Next suggestion was run command prompt as administrator and reset windows update and try updating again, following the instructions at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/windows-update-resources

The first item in this document was a link to “Reset Windows Update Client settings script will completely reset the Windows Update client settings. “ However, when I clicked this link it redirected me to a page of “Browse Code Samples”.

The next section in this document promised to help me “Reset Windows Update components manually”. However, when I reached the point where I was instructed to enter the command “Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"” the return stated that that file could not be found.

I am not a computer programmer. I am hoping that Microsoft has more user-friendly instructions for addressing this problem.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) will not install

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

V 10.0 build 10240

Maybe try with the Windows update mini-tool, found here http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/t...dows-10-automatic-updates-and-spyware.218745/ , thanks to Mussels. it installed perfectly for me last night.

all have failed. I have attempted using many of the suggested fixes to no avail. The most recent attempt were the fixes shown on this page. Always fails at steps 6 to 7; goes to restart.
