Update KB4052623 still gives error 0x80070643 after trying everything, is the update even still needed?
Is it included in following Windows Defender updates (or in the Windows Creators Spring update) which i installed?

If not, what's it's changelog?

I keep getting this fail error - • Update for Windows Defender antimalware platform - KB4052623 (Version 4.12.17007.17123) - Error 0x80070643 Has anyone else run into this or know a solution?

 

KB4052623 (Version 4.16.17656.18052) - Error 0x80070643 Defender Troubleshooter - gives conflicting reports

The Virus & Threat Protection claims "protection definitions are up to date. Last updated Sunday, June 03, 2018 10:00 AM) 10 minutes ago

Yet, the Windows Update claims the KB4052623 Failed (see error in header)

yes, we have followed all threads to scannow, repair, and every other suggestion suggested on this forum.

This is tiresome! Microsoft is providing conflicting information.

When running the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

It claims Download and Install Pending updates ----> Apply This fix

Again, this hardly gives confidence that things are "up to date"

Then Windows update Troubleshooter "Repair Windows Update Database Corruption"

(this is the 10th time I have run this)

Apply that fix (rebuild Windows Update Database)

Now the troubleshooter shows three fixes

Potential Update Database error detected - fixed

Windows Update Components must be repaired - Fixed

Check for pending updates - Fixed

Close the Troubleshooter and run again -

Evidently NOTHING was actually fixed - it is the same cycle again!

Same problem:

Again, I have been through all of the links and on-line troubleshooting guides. They don't work.

Can Microsoft please put attention into Windows Defender? This false report about being updated may potentially put people at great risk.

Hi all

I've seen a number of threads online about "Update for Windows Defender antimalware platform - KB4052623 (Version 4.16.17656.18052)" failing to install (Error 0x80070643).

About a week after the 2018-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4100403), I noted the above message in my own update history.

I got some ideas online I turned into a workaround that worked for my circumstances.

In the hope it may work for others, I've posted it on Microsoft Community at KB4052623 - Microsoft Community.

If posting a link to another forum rather than putting the workaround here is acceptable, I'd be really grateful as - being image-intensive - it was a bit long to set up.
