  1. update on 10\06\2022 causing World of warcraft to flicker at 240 refresh rate

I installed the update yesterday 10/06/2022 and now world of warcraft isn't playable. I uninstalled it and it's playable. I'f downloaded and installed an nvidia updated drivers and if I leave the Microsoft update installed the only way I can play the game it to change the refresh rate to 60. which of course is unacceptable.

  2. Refresh rate Problem

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

Screen refresh rate is the rate at which the data displayed on screen is refreshed; it may be an image or some text document. Most of the users would like to set it to a higher rate but this also depends on the capacity of graphic
card and monitors. If the refresh rate is slow, the images on the display looks as flickering to the user eye and makes it uncomfortable to work.

Nowadays the latest monitors available in market will have minimum 60 Hz of refresh rate and it is very good option to set it to 70 Hz if you your monitor is compatible. Normally a high performance or quality monitors can reach
120 Hz of refresh rate. So I would suggest you to set your monitor refresh rate as higher as possible, below given steps describes how to access this feature on your Windows 8.1/10 PC.

    • The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
    • If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
    • Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.
I would, as of now, suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's support website and install the latest display and chipset drivers available for the latest operating system (currently it would be 8.1 in the list).

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

Hi Gully. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

The same crash dump results as for your previous threads which has pro analysis in first thread by Dave who is one of the best.

This time let's look more directly at causes for freezing and crashes by World of Warcraft which are known issues.. Work through each of the steps in each tutorial or thread here, until one works:

  4. update on 10\06\2022 causing World of warcraft to flicker at 240 refresh rate

Windows 10 causing Dell P4317Q monitor to flicker/blink

Update: 6-7-2022: It looks like I solved the problem by using NVIDIA Control Panel to create a custom resolution and set monitor/display refresh rate at 60.022 Hz. To do this, open NVIDIA Control Panel, under Display, click on "Change resolution," then click on "Customize" which is under the various resolution options, then in the Create Custom Resolution dialogue box, under Timing drop-down menu, select "Manual," then set vertical refresh rate and test that setting by clicking on "Test." If it works for your particular display/monitor then you can see if it will work to fix glitching/blinking of screen. Now my Windows "Refresh rate" in Windows 10 "Advanced display settings" states refresh rate is 60.022 Hz, not 59.997 Hz. This, so far, has fixed the problem.

Update: 6/2/2022: Again, the monitor is blinking, so re-installing monitor driver did not work to fix the problem after all.

Update: 5/30/2022: I reinstalled Dell monitor driver and it appears to have solved the blinking/flickering problem. So, Windows 10 was not the culprit causing this problem.
