    Update systematically removes network drivers

The hardware is MSI Titan GT80 SLI.
    Updated to 20H2

The last major update (1909 IIRC) wiped my network drivers, had to reinstall drivers and all was fine again.

Did the 20H2 update yesterday, came back with 2 annoying problems. Cannot connect either via wifi or ethernet. Zero network connectivity. wifi mode does not show most of the hotspots except for one and not sure what it is. The right one is not visible. Checked the hotspot via my phone, it's working. So it's the computer.

Secondly the secondary monitor, Dell UP3216Q attached via mini-DP is not detected. It was right before update and now not detecting a signal. Tried rebooting both the machine and unplugging the monitor. Just not detecting a signal it says. I thought it switched input somehow, nope still on Mini-DP.

I don't know how to fix it. I can try reinstall the drivers but should not have to do that as a part of the upgrade, oh and how do I download them with no network connectivity.
I think I am going to recover off the clone SSD I made (just before this updade) and forget about this update.

    :)

    Update systematically removes network drivers

    I updated my profile.

The wifi card is Killer 1535. It also has a ethernet card. I am not using any "third party network management software".

I am currently booted into the clone and everything works, ethernet and wifi since it's not on 20H2.

I did an update about 2 years ago (don't remember the version) and it lost the wifi capability but not ethernet. Since I was connected via ethernet I did not realize I had no wifi for several weeks. This time I lost both wifi and ethernet.

This problem has been ongoing for several years and I lost my network capability several times before during major updates. I got tired of reinstalling drivers and looking for things that fail post-install. Hard to explain why the external monitor is no longer detected.

    - - - Updated - - -

I reinstalled the Killer 1535 driver I had saved on my desktop just for that purpose and it gained networking.

The monitor came back by itself too after 15 minutes of being connected, without me doing anything, it seems.

In the optional updates field under 'update' I did pick up the monitor driver. Bounced the machine and now all seems to work. Haven't tested the Ethernet yet.
