Windows 10: Update trying to install intel driver repeatedly?

On 13th June My update history shows the following update 'installed successfully'


Intel Corporation - Display - 26.20.100.7323


However it then has unbeknownst to me been trying to install it again multiple times 35 so far.

Each entry in the update history says it has installed successfully it's identifying it as a driver update.


But something is wrong, as on the main update page there is a red exclamation mark, "error encountered" & it says

"A current driver on your PC may be better than the driver we're trying to install. We'll keep trying to install."


There is a button to press for 'retry' but when you do it just comes back with the same error msg, & then in the update history list says it has installed successfully. Not sure if there should have been any other automatic updates since 13/6/202 but if there were it hasnt installed them & doesnt seem to be able to recognise any other updates - when you click 'check for updates' it just tries to install the driver again & then repeats the error msg as before.


Wondering what to do about this, any advice welcome thank you

So you're trying to install the driver manually. Right?

Usually, Intel Management Engine Interface driver will be deployed through Windows Update. Once you upgrade your PC the same will be installed automatically on your PC. Suggest you to press
Windows Key + X and select Device Manager. Now find
System Devices, expand it and see if Intel Management Engine Interface driver is listed there.

Double-click on it and see the version of the driver installed on your PC. Most probably it will be the latest on.

To address your concern, it's safe to run the Intel Driver Update Utility Installer if it's compatible with Windows 10. If not, you can run it in
Compatibility Mode. Regarding with the error "USB controller has failed or not working", refer to the steps provided below:

• Go to Device Manager.
• Uninstall the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Right click on any device in the Device Manager, and click Scan for hardware changes. It will automatically reinstall the Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Startup error on discontinued Intel driver

Hi David,

Windows 10 update remove the Intel WiDi driver due to compatibility issue. We suggest uninstalling the Intel WiDi driver from Control Panel to avoid it from showing up every time you start your computer. To do this, kindly follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X on your keyboard.
• Select Control Panel.
• Click Programs.
• Choose Programs and Features.
• Click Intel (R) WiDi Driver and hit Uninstall.
• Restart your computer.
