Windows 10: Update win 11 Home to Pro using product key from defunct laptop

I just bought a new laptop with Windows 11 Home. Another laptop recently died, with Windows 10 Pro. I understand I can use that O/S Product key to upgrade the new one to Windows 11 Pro. I removed the NvMe C: drive from the dead one and have it connected by USB. Where can I find the key on that drive?

Win 10 Pro retail license transfer product key

The new LG computer had Windows 11 Home pre-installed. I backed an image of that up to my NAS using Macrium Reflect, then overlaid the SSD on the LG with the image of Windows 10 Pro from the defunct HP computer. That Windows 10 system image on the new LG reports a different product key than the product key that same (now transferred) Windows 10 Pro system reported when it was installed on the now-defunct HP. Settings>System>About says that Windows thinks it's still installed on the HP from which it was transferred. slmgr /dli says it's a Win 10 Retail license that's "Licensed". Given all this, how do I straighten out the Win 10 Pro now installed on the LG, and what do I do to ensure that Microsoft has the correct license+system info?

 

Why was I not asked for a product key when upgrading to Win 10?

According to your spec you have Win 10 Pro, but perhaps that doesn't reflect your PC.

You haven't stated which edition of Win 10 you have on this machine, nor what your Win 10 key is for.

For example, if you already have Win 10 Pro and your key is Win 10 Home, that would be a retrograde step.

Upgrade a Win 10 home OEM to Win 10 Pro OEM with Win 10 Pro OEM Key?

I recently purchased a laptop that has an OEM version of Win 10 Home on it.

I verified this by using : slmgr -dli.

Previously I had purchased an OEM Win 10 Pro Key.

Can I use this OEM Win 10 Pro Key to upgrade the OEM Win 10 Home to the OEM Win 10 Pro.

If so what are the steps to accomplish this?

In addition, I assume that is this is possible, that the current product key will be updated to the new product key?

The reason I am asking this is that it's my understanding that these product keys are tied to the bios on a name brand laptop.
