Windows 10: Update Windows 10 from version 1909 to 20H2 & 21H2 failure

Windows Update errorsI am running Windows 10 pro 64 bit.I have been trying to update from Windows 10 version 1909 for over ten months.My Windows Update history shows multiple failures of Automatic updates.Things I’ve triedI have tried pretty much all the recommended fixes:Running update trouble-shooter - no problem foundRunning SFC - corrupted files are found and repaired.Running DISMTurning off KasperskySelective startup, with all non-Microsoft services turned offBoot from downloaded ISOI have also tried booting from an ISO, both on USB flash drive, and one burnt to a CD.Generally speaking, t

Updated from 20H2 to 21H2, no way to go back?

When your PC upgraded to 20H2 it must have been from version 1909 or earlier. That would require a full replacement of your system files and would have created a Windows.old to hold your old system.

Stating with version 2004 all subsequent versions up to the current 21H2 share a common set of system files so a full reinstall is no longer required. After the latest cumulative updates the 21H2 features were already in your system files, but were dormant. They are turned on by a small Enablement Package that installs like a cumulative update.

What is new for IT pros in Windows 10 version 21H2

If you really wanted to go back you can uninstall it like any other Windows update, not that I can think of any reason you might want to. 21H2 seems to have no new known issues, only the same ones as 2004/20H2/21H1.

KB4023057 Version 21H2 appears in Windows updater for a moment

Hi

In Windows Update KB4023057 Version 21H2 appears and it wants to downloading but stops immediately at 0% and disappears.
Under View update history the update appears as Successfully installed on 9/9/2021.

I can manually check for updates and the update appears again for 2 seconds.

I run the Windows 10 Update troubleshooter. Didn't found any issues. Wanted to uninstall the update but it isn't listed under Uninstall Updates in View Update History.

Not sure if relevant; As Optional quality update available is cumulative preview for 21H2 (KB5007253). Usually I don't install optional updates.

Any suggestions?

So true, Try3. FWIW I did a system image 3 days ago.
