Windows 10: Update Windows. Loss of documents and photos

    Update Windows. Loss of documents and photos


    I want to update my laptop. Haven't used it in years. It's Windows 7. To updat to Windows 11, would I lose all my documents and photos on my laptop or will they still be there after updating to windows 11.

    Hi,

    Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated.

    I suggest you to follow the below steps to give permission for entire system, so that you can save the files in photos and documents.

    • Right click on the folder and click on properties.
    • Click on security tab and select the group\user name.
    • Click on edit option and check the option full control.
    • Click on apply and then on ok button.
    Now you can try saving the file in photos and documents and check if the issue persists.

    Windows Update to 1H21 causes loss of right-click function  

    First step isn't right click. The download is a zip file. The program is portable.

    If you can't even run that, and given other issues, and the length of this thread, and if an in-place upgrade repair install won't help, suggest you're looking at a clean install.
