  1. Update your BIOS if you can't have a clean Windows 10 installation

Since 2019 , i was stuck with windows 1709, every update to higher version finished with Windows logo on a black screen without spinning dots.

I read every article about that subject without any success.

I decided to have a clean installation from scratch by create a bootable USB drive with windows installation on it.

I could boot from that usb but i got to the same point : windows logo on a black screen.

I tried that usb on another pc and the new installation would start.

My conclusion is : something wrong with my pc! and what? Obviously it's the BIOS.

But i still hoped that subsequent windows updates would somehow fix that problem but it never did.

After 20 months, i finally decided to look for a new BIOS firmware, i found one created in 2010, but the procedure to flash the rom gave me a new error : Invalid ROM ID. My old ROM id is A, the new one is B, so it refused to flash.

I got that new ROM from Gateway support website for my pc model, so i guessed it would be a GOOD rom, but why it didn't work ???

I read almost every article about Invalid ROM ID, and i found one guy who suggested to add option /x to AFUFlash command to ignore ROM ID and flash anyway.

He was my savior without knowing. Thanks man!

Finally my windows version jumped from 1709 to 20H2 in one shot!

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

  4. Update your BIOS if you can't have a clean Windows 10 installation

    Clean Windows 10 (?PRO?) install

I have bought a legit "Windows 10 Pro" key of a key website. It is legit since i'm currently using it for over a year now. I currently have Windows 10 Pro installed on my PC and I want to do a clean install. I just can't find the windows 10 Pro download in the tool. But if i could use a windows 10 pro key with a normal windows 10 install, I'll be good to go.
