    Updated BIOS, and Credential Guard MAY not be running anymore


    I am running a latest Gigabyte motherboard, using an entirely new 1-year-old PC, and I had Credential Guard running perfectly well using Win11 Pro 22H2 and set it up perfectly in the Group Policy and it listed itself as running everywhere, and then I updated the motherboard's BIOS which very recently had an update available. Ever since this update, Credential Guard is not licensed and will not start according to the Microsoft Event Viewer, and it does not list itself as running in the System Information, it oddly has the PowerShell command "Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_DeviceGuard -Name

    Credential Guard Shows as Not Running

    In our domain, our computers are set up to have Credential Guard enabled with UEFI lock. This has been working without issue. I noticed on one computer (running Windows 11 22H2, latest build) that Credential Guard shows as not running in in System Information:

    Trying to determine why Credential Guard isn't running, I looked at the event logs only to find that they report it started without issue, after reboot, Wininit Event ID 13 appears with the following message: "Credential Guard was started and will protect LSA credentials."

    This computer was running credential guard before without issue, I don't know what changed and why it claims to not be running anymore. Other computers in our environment that are identically configured (hardware and software) are running Credential Guard without issue. There are no Credential Guard related events at any time that imply it has failed to start. Only this event 13 showing it is started and running.

    Any idea what is going on here? Is there a way for me to confirm the status of Credential Guard given the conflicting information shown above?

    VMware Workstation can be run after disabling Device/Credential Guard

    Windows Sandbox cannot be enabled on Windows 10 Home. The workaround you most likely used, does not even work, and has never actually worked. However, when you attempted to enable Windows Sandbox, it also enabled Credential Guard and Device Guard.

    The first thing you need to backup any critical files you cannot live without. Depending on the state of your system you might decide it's time to simply reinstall Windows 10 Home. An alternative is to upgrade to Windows 10 Professional so you can Enable Windows Sandbox then disable it properly. The following suggestion was written against an assumption that Windows Sandbox was properly enabled and not left in a broken state due to a workaround solution on Windows 10 Home.
