Windows 10: Updated Microsoft Online Services Terms now available to customers

Today, we published the updated Microsoft Online Services Terms with the changes we announced in November 2019.

As Julie Brill, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Privacy and Regulatory Affairs, described in her post, Introducing more privacy transparency for our commercial cloud customers, these changes provide our customers with more transparency on data processing in the Microsoft cloud, and increase Microsoft’s data protection responsibilities for a subset of data processing that we engage in when we provide commercial cloud services. As of today, the updated terms are available to all our commercial customers—public sector and private sector, large enterprises, and small and medium businesses—globally.

We’ve already started the process of gathering feedback from our customers, including the Dutch Ministry of Justice and Security, on the revised contractual language of the Online Services Terms. We anticipate that the feedback will lead to some further adjustments of the terms, which we’ll implement over the coming months.

Updates to LinkedIn Terms of Service on June 7th 2017

At LinkedIn, our “members first” philosophy helps guide every decision we make, including how we gather and respect your personal information. Today, we’re giving you an early look at LinkedIn’s updated Terms of Service - our Privacy Policy and User Agreement - so that you can understand what’s changing before it takes effect on June 7, 2017.

It’s been a little while since we updated our Terms of Service and we’ve taken this opportunity to shorten and reorganize our Privacy Policy to make it even clearer and easier for our members to understand. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to giving you control over your personal information.

Our updated Privacy Policy enables and provides information on new LinkedIn features, and choices over how your information is used:

Increased visibility of your LinkedIn Profile - Similar to the way your profile shows up in search engines, we will allow certain third-party services to show your profile to their users, so that you can be more easily found for opportunities and connect with people. You can opt out of this broader distribution of your profile, and you control what you share on your profile.

Easier to share accomplishments with your network - To make it easier to update your profile, we’ll look for and suggest positive and public professional accomplishments, like awards or industry recognition, to share with your network. You can opt out if you decide you don’t want these recommendations.

Productivity bots and similar tools to improve communication with your network - You can opt-in to use our automated systems that can help you with messages by suggesting responses, assisting in scheduling meetings with connections, generating ice breakers, or offering insights to help you connect with other professionals more easily.

Easily meet up with other members - You can choose to use an upcoming feature that helps you find nearby LinkedIn members, who have also opted-in, at a conference, event or meeting.

Keep learning new skills on Lynda - Your learning account on Lynda continues to be covered by the Lynda privacy policy.

Our updated User Agreement will look familiar, with a few changes that are highlighted in our summary, including:

Dos and Don’ts - We’ve added clarity about the activities allowed on LinkedIn. For example, we prohibit both the act of scraping others’ content from our services, and the development and support of tools to scrape LinkedIn services.

Payment Terms - If you choose to purchase some of our Premium services, we have added additional clarity around our payment terms.

Irish Law - Our members and visitors outside the U.S. will now be governed by Irish law (rather than California law) and can have disputes settled in Irish courts.

You might have heard that at the end of last year we became a part of Microsoft, but our services are still provided under a separate Terms of Service. We’re excited about leveraging Microsoft technology and resources to offer more valuable features and services to you. Microsoft Releases New Search Services for Internet and Mobile Customers

Microsoft Corp. today announced the final updates to the fall release of its Live Search service, introducing a broad array of new services and features to its local and mobile search offerings. The new features and enhancements are designed to make it easier for people to find what they need at home or on the go through significant innovations in mapping, imagery and driving directions as well as new services to make the mobile search experience easy and powerful.

Microsoft also announced the availability of the Live Search 411 service. Customers can gain toll-free access by dialing (800) CALL-411 (800-225-5411) from any phone to find and connect to local businesses and other local information, such as weather updates, movie show times and airline information. People using a cell phone with Internet access can also receive links to traffic maps from Live Search 411.

“Microsoft is building on several years of innovation in imagery and 3-D visualization, adding some of the most significant innovations to driving directions technology in the last several years and expanding how our current 185 million customers can experience the improvements to the core of Live Search to include access from a wider variety of clients, platforms and devices,” said Satya Nadella, corporate vice president of the Search & Advertising Platform Group at Microsoft. “Collectively, these improvements build on the work we did in core relevance and differentiated vertical experiences, and are an important milestone in our efforts in delivering a comprehensive, innovative search offering that includes mobile, mapping, Web and local services for customers to find what they need, when they need it, on any device.”

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of the release on Sept. 26 of several new capabilities for Live Search, which included significant improvements in relevance and coverage in the core Web search service and expanded the range and depth of information available in areas where most customers were doing most of their queries — entertainment, shopping, health and local searches.

Today’s release offers these key features:

Maps and Directions

Innovative driving directions. The new Live Search offers more accurate and easy-to-use driving directions, including dynamic rerouting of directions based on real-time traffic information, one-click directions that allow drivers to get only essential directions to their destination with no starting point needed, and inline hints that tell drivers if they have gone too far based on local landmarks. Combined with new, one-page printing, these new enhancements have taken driving directions to the next level.

Innovative visualization and 3-D. Coverage of bird’s-eye and 3-D imagery has been increased to cover 80 percent of the U.S. population. In addition, nearly 200 complete cities are available in 3-D, and customers can now combine views of 3-D imagery with Live Search’s unique 45-degree bird’s-eye images, giving a complete and detailed geolocation experience. In addition, people who use Live Search Maps can create and share their own 3-D models of buildings through an alliance with Dassault Systemes.

Innovative local content index including user-generated content.The new local search capabilities in Live Search include not only a broad set of expert sources but also broad access to user-generated content from Live Search and from across the entire Web, through searchable user-created collections and Keyhole Markup Language (KML) support.

Virtual Earth platform updates. The Virtual Earth platform is the underlying technology behind well over 1,000 partner mapping solutions as well as Live Search Maps. Updates in version 6.0 of Virtual Earth include multipoint trip routing; enhanced geocoding that combines results for multiple geocoders; rooftop geocoding, which provides more precise geocoding results; map control support for Safari 2.0; and the release of MapCruncher beta, making it easier to publish maps overlaid in an application using the Virtual Earth map control. Mobile Enhancements

Live Search for Windows Mobile with voice input. The updated Live Search for Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 will be available for download for free on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and now includes voice input (beta version), gas prices, and hours of operation for businesses. The service can also use Global Positioning System (GPS) data on GPS-enabled phones to provide location-aware local search for customers.

Live Search 411. Jointly developed with Tellme Networks Inc., acquired by Microsoft earlier this year, a new toll-free number will be available for anyone using any kind of phone to access the power of Live Search. Users can simply dial (800) CALL-411 (800-225-5411) and say the city and state, then ask for the business or business category to hear a list of options. Users say, “Connect me,” to instantly connect to the business. Cell phone users can ask for a text message with a link to a map of the business.

Live Search for use with BlackBerry Devices. Live Search designed for use with BlackBerry devices is in beta and will be available for download for free on Tuesday, Oct. 16. It is a new offering designed for use on BlackBerry OS 4.0.2 or later phones, and customers with GPS-enabled phones can use location awareness to enhance their searches.

New policy and guidance for Microsoft Enterprise Agreement customers

Today, we’re announcing another significant step in the transformation of Microsoft volume licensing to make it easier for customers and partners to do business with us.

Beginning on July 1, 2016, the minimum Enterprise Agreement (EA) commitment for commercial customers signing new Enterprise Enrollments or Enterprise Subscription Enrollments will increase from 250 users or devices to 500. Along with this change, we are guiding new commercial customers within the 250 to 499 user or device range to our modern volume licensing solutions: the Microsoft Product and Services Agreement (MPSA) and the Cloud Solutions Provider (CSP).

Together, these announcements reflect the underlying transformation in what customers buy and how they buy it. First, customers are increasingly harnessing our cloud and hybrid solutions, and second, our modern programs of MPSA and CSP, purpose-built for these developments, are rapidly being embraced because they deliver the simpler, more flexible licensing our customers and partners tell us they want.

Microsoft Products and Services Agreement (MPSA). MPSA is the fastest and most flexible way to buy all the software and cloud services you need through one simplified agreement.

You can create a purchasing structure that reflects your organization’s structure, yet optimize pricing across your MPSA.

One-, two-, and three-year durations for many online services deliver budget predictability and the flexibility to purchase what you need when you need it. We’ll also soon add short-term subscription durations (one to 11 months) to help you address seasonal and project-based needs.

There are no minimum requirements to start buying cloud services. You can begin with exactly as much as you need for your organization, and you’ll get price protection on any incremental purchases you buy during the term of the subscription.

Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). For customers seeking to fully outsource management of their cloud services, CSP offers an easy way to license what you need in combination with the value-added services offered by your systems integrator, hoster, or born-in-the-cloud reseller partner.

There are thousands of CSP partners worldwide with the technical expertise to help you take full advantage of Microsoft cloud technologies — even if you have no in-house IT department.

You can fully leverage these partners to handle ordering, provisioning, management, and support for Microsoft cloud services.

For Office 365 and Microsoft Dynamics Online, your partner can purchase a subscription and add and modify seats mid-term. For Azure, you pay for what you use, in arrears. There are no minimum requirements to start buying cloud services.

At the expiration of their current EA term, existing commercial customers with fewer than 500 users or devices can choose to transition to MPSA or CSP, or they can renew their EA by extending it for one additional 36-month period. The extension option is recommended for customers whose unique needs are not yet supported by MPSA or CSP, as well as for customers who simply prefer to continue with the EA.

Please note that the change to the minimum commitment does not impact EA customers with greater than 500 users or devices, Public Sector customers, or the Server and Cloud Enrollment (SCE).

While changes do not go into effect until July 1, 2016, customers can start planning ahead today.
