Windows 10: Updated older PC to Windows 10: Issues with sound drivers

Introduction:I've been on the fence on upgrading since my PC is from around 2013, but the lack of support on Win7 is starting to reach a critical state so I thought I had to try. For the most part, it went smoothly upgrade, not fresh install. I uninstalled some non-portable apps to reinstall on the new system and had no immediate issues except the DisplayPort-problem during the upgrade, which is apparently a known issue fix was to use HDMI, update Win10, then DP was working again.I thought I'd update my drivers, and ran into the first and only big hardware issue so far.PC components:- Moth

This might have caused due to sound driver compatibility issues.

As a first step, I suggest you to install the latest updates including the optional updates from Windows Updates and check if the issue persists.

I suggest you to try reinstalling Sound drivers in compatibility mode and check if it helps. This is to check if this is caused due to driver compatibility issues.

Refer to the following Windows 8.1 article to install the driver in compatibility mode. The steps for Windows 8.1 applies to Windows 10 as well.

After installing Windows 10 sound driver is not available in Device Manager and issues with sound.

• When you say that "there is nothing in the device manager for sound gone", is the sound driver available in the Device Manager driver list?

Windows 10 Drivers for Older Intel Desktop Board with Onboard NIC, Sound, Video

• Are you getting any error message?
• What is the make and model of the computer?

Refer to the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I would suggest you to run the Network adapter troubleshooter and check if it helps.

1. Click on Search bar.

2. Type “Troubleshooting” without the quotes and click on
Troubleshooting.

3. Click on View All on the left panel of the screen.

4. Then click on both Network Adapter.

5. Then click on Next and follow the instructions.

Step 2: I suggest you to refer to the steps provided in the below Microsoft Help Article about sound related issues and check if it helps.

Step 3: I would suggest you to update the latest driver for network adapter under Device Manager.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on
Enter Key.

3. Expand the following options.

• Network Adapter.
• Mice and other pointing devices.
• Audio inputs and outputs

4. Right click on the drivers and click on Update driver software.
