Windows 10: Updated to version 1709 now no wifi and no wifi card in device manager

After trying to look for new hardware and trying this and that (old school ways, win 7 etc) Ended up rolling back to previous version and still do not have wifi showing in window settings and nothing in device manager.

What to do next, delete all in networking to have windows find drivers again?

No wifi / ethernet menu

Hello,

Yesterday I upgraded my lenovo laptop (y510P) from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.

After this upgrade was installed in tried to connect to internet but then I encountered a problem.

My laptop didn't automatically connect to wifi and there was also no response when the ethernet cable was inserted.

In the sub menu 'Network & Internet' the header 'Wi-Fi' and the header 'Ethernet' are both missing.

This means it will not connect to the internet.

While running windows 8.1 I had no such problems.

Does anyone know what to do??

 

No WIFI option in WIndows 10 and now no wifi after going back to windows 8.1. Also getting error code "9996" while trying to install the HP driver for Wireless driver.

This is really frustrating! The computer HAD built in Wi-Fi and is based in a completely different room than the modem. There is nowhere for it to go other than on the dining room table at the moment - plugged in via ethernet.

It had internet and wireless (used for work!!!!) built in and now there is no option for wifi anywhere because of this update!!!!

If you are V1703, or later, the trouble shooter is in Settings > Update and security > Trouble Shooters. It will remove adapter and re-install. In your case this may not work as it doesn't think there is one. ( I see from specs you are insider program so you could have a build I have not seen.)

In Settings > Network and Internet > scroll down the right hand side of the first panel, Network Reset. These processes forget wireless passwords and you may have to re-install VPN software or custom communication software if so installed.

Any chance you have some sort of physical switch to shut off wireless that you may have engaged accidentally. ( Or Software switch / function key).

Does you BIOS have any settings for enabling or disabling wireless. Maybe disable and enable there to clear any glitches.

Sorry, it's not my computer. A buddy called me up today and I went down to try and fix him up only to fail. Not sure what version he was on, but I assume it was 1703. I could not try to much, he did not have anything backed up and he stated there were things he could not replace if lost. It's an Acer Aspire desktop. Also sure he did not have VPN software running. I'll forward your ideas and see that helps. If he can get email??? Unsure on that one.

Get him to use a wire, interim solution. (Hope that works.)
