Windows 10: Updated Version 1511 to anniversary update, 1607, but still at 1511

Hello all.


Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.


I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.


The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.


Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.


Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.


Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.


Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.


Any clues as to what's going on?

You are using version 1511, the Anniversary Update is actually the upgrade to version 1607.

If you have any other drives with any other versions of Windows on them that can boot, disable them as well via your BIOS. For some reason that's what fixed it for me.

I've not tried that. I'm using Reflect and have a dive cloned at all times. But, windows did the Novemember update without any issues, so don't think that may be the issue. Could you elaborate more detail on what your problem was and how you came up with disabling your other drives? I have 5 drives, C is my boot, another is inside the case I clone to, the other three are external drives, none bootable.

 

Is there any other way to upgrade windows 10 version 1511 to 1607?

 

I just today set up a new computer that came with version/build 10240, got it to Version 1607 Build 14393.447 but it took all day to do it, lots of updates in between versions/builds. Unfortunately [or maybe fortunately] I couldn't see what all was going on behind the pretty blue screen with the messages to wait, don't turn off.

Did you try the Media Creation Tool? There's a choice to download a large file for use installing on a different computer or the one you are having a problem with, save the file and run it to get the install file.

I just got around to creating the .iso file from the install.esd file I had saved and burned a DVD from it, the Version is 1607 and the Build is 14393.0. As I mentioned, the whole process with the updates needed took awhile.
