Windows 10: "updater.exe" When Opening Chrome

this behaviour is new, and I've only seen it on my Windows 10 PC, it doesn't happen on my Windows 11 device. I usually leave the Settings > Check For Updates tab open in Chrome, so it opens by default and checks for updates, when I open the browserin Task Manager, I've recently seen that opening Chrome with this tab spawns 2 "updater.exe" processes, which linger for about 5 seconds before disappearing. this is not usual behaviour, because I've never seen these processes before; I think it usually spawns "GoogleUpdater.exe" insteadI checked the file location, which is ProgramFilesx86 >

chrome will not open

IK reinstalled the KB and a Silverlight update, no luck. I tried to remove chrome , again, using the suggested tool. Chrome was not on the list, I selected not listed. It wanted the product code. A quick internet search did not find it. I removed chrome
using the add and remove programs.,reinstalled chrome and ran the clean up tool, no malware. chrome now opens.. I have signed in and it is working. The second removal worked. thx

 

Chrome not even opening anymore

I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

• Are you able to open other browser like Internet explorer and Edge?

This issue may arise due to some corruption in Chrome installation files. I suggest you to try installing Google Chrome in compatibility mode and check if it works. Compatibility mode runs the program using settings
from a previous version of Windows. Follow these steps to install the program in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

• Download the setup file from the Google Chrome website.

• Right-click on the .exe setup file and click on ‘Properties’.
• Click on the ‘Compatibility’ tab and check the box
  ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 7/8/8.1 operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Possible minor bug - Update with both Opera 2x & Google Chrome installed

Strange bug: Running the previous-older version of GPU-Z on Windows 7, 64-bit, SP1 and trying to update GPU-Z. Have Opera 23/24 installed as a 2ndary web browser, and Google Chrome installed as default/main web browser.
Steps that work fine:
1) Run GPU-Z whatever version.
2) Open About.
3) Click the links.
Result: Links open correctly in default browser - Google Chrome.

Steps to reproduce bug:
1) Run GPU-Z, version before latest.
2) Try to check for updates.
3) GPU-Z says an update is available.
4) Tell it to show the update.
Result: Link opens incorrectly in Opera 23/24, instead of default Google Chrome web browser.
Expected: Open in Google Chrome instead.

Note: Opera 23/24 uses the same core as Google Chrome.

Please check and fix, if necessary.
