I attached have a web page picture of recent updates on my computer. They show large updates/duplication(?) on a somewhat regular basis. Something seems not quite right. I have deleted Flash Player because I read that it isn't a necessity. How can I stop all this?

By the way: suggest you try the snipping tool to avoid uncropped photos like that. If my assumption is correct and you had not.

Why so much need to control all aspects of updates ? Doesn't seem too psychologically healthy to me.
I had may set up from the beginning to manual only because it wouldn't interrupt me at inopportune times but I check for them regularly specially when new build is announced.

Are you on Insider updates? Those would be more frequent. If you are, I suggest going back to normal build.

Control freaks, that's who. I'm a bit allergic to them. Had to leave a good job because of a boss like that and split with a girlfriend that turned into one of those. I'm not in love with automation, in my working life I spent most of time repairing and even making automatic production machines but had only one car with automatic transmission and didn't like it so I changed it to 4 speed ('70 Mustang).

You should ditch Optus as they, like Telstra, charge more for less and go with one of the smaller ones like TPG or Dodo or Club Telco amongst others where you'll get unlimited downloads for around the $A50-60 a month but I suppose you might not have these ISP's where you are. Can you ask a friend with better plan to download the updates for you when needed and give it to you on a USB stick so you can totally disable Win updates in between

  7. It's not so much a need to control. It's just that I prefer to run my computer with minimal data usage as I run it on a minimal budget. I'm annoyed that Microsoft installs these hefty and seemingly unnecessary (to me at least) updates. Back in the days of W7, which I long to return to, this did not happen at least not on such a large scale. There was more information on their importance and a subsequent choice of whether to download or not.

Is your changing a car from automatic transmission to manual suppose to support your lesser need for "Control". Or express your understanding for people with control issues, but to a lesser degree than the OP? sorry I lost your track there. I agree on your other comment though. I dont see the need either.

I just gonna read this thread over again!

For cars. manual tranny over auto is for more control obviously but not for psychological reasons to be in control over everything but for better performance and mileage.
Automatic production machines over manual ones for faster operation with minimally skilled labor
Windows automatic updates, well, I did that for a while in older windows but ended up installing them all anyway so auto updates are just convenience.

  10. I see your point and im inclined to agree. Though, I never went down the manual download path really. Im not a control freak but sometimes I am an "answer freak" where I will waste time getting something changed or done on the computer that I really dont need or sometimes even want in the long run.

Like the time I spent trying to switch my volume control via windows 10 key command from changing +2 to +1% each button command. It was hardcoded apparently in windows registry, but I managed to change it with a 3rd party program.

    Let id be *chuckle
