    Updating 1809 > 20H2 - Stuck at 86% and then rolling back x3 attempts

    Hi,

I've tried a few times to update my parents fairly new PC Win10Pro on 1803. Even gone so far as to try:

Manually setting attributes of “system 32\catroot” folder and the files within it

Stop the Windows Update Service wuauserv, Cryptographic services CryptServ, and Background Intelligent Transfer Service BITS

Rename the “system 32\catroot” folder to “system32\catroot.old”

Rename the temporary Windows Update files folder “Windows\SoftwareDistribution” to “Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old”

Rename the “All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader” folder to “All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader.old”

    Restart BITS

    Restart CryptSvc

    Restart wuauserv

3rd time in attempting I now get the "Undoing changes made to your computer..."

Open to more suggestions please. I will paste here the output of the get-windowsupdate -verbose, once I can get back on the PC.

    Thanks in advance,

    Al

    :)

    Stuck in Windows 10 Upgrade

My computer seems to be stuck in a Windows 10 failed upgrade loop. I was running fine on a beta version of Windows 10, and then I came downstairs one morning to see it repeatedly booting, attempting to repair, then rebooting. The steps I've taken to diagnose are:

    • Attempting to boot off a USB drive (with all drives disabled in BIOS) - this fails at the point of the blue windows screen
    • Attempting to boot the machine itself and getting into "repair/safe mode" using F7
    • Looking at the BIOS for obvious failures (e.g. RAM that should be there is missing) - nothing obvious is wrong.

I am fairly certain the build version was 9926. For many months, the system would attempt to upgrade, and then say "it failed" for some reason and roll back.

    Suggestions for next steps?

I have the same problem, the 86% & 46%. I have let it run for several hours with it stuck at 86%. I have had to shut down and restart several times. I have also done the rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN suggestion/fix. These
don't work. What other options do I have?
