    Updating from Windows 10 Home 1909 to 2004 and/or 20H2 always fails - 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

I've been trying to update from 1909 to 2004 and now 20H2 for months, but the update always fails.

It always seems to fail at 48% regardless of whether I use Windows Update, Windows 10 Update Assistant, or an in-place upgrade using Windows 10 Setup regardless of if it's updating to 2004 or 20H2.

The error I always see is:
    0xC1900101 - 0x30018
The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZED operation

    I tried using SetupDiag v 1.6.0.42
It detected the logs, but the resulting SetupDiag_13-Mar-2021.log was empty.

Looking up the error online it says:
Disconnect all peripheral devices that are connected to the system, except for the mouse, keyboard and display.
Contact your hardware vendor to obtain updated device drivers.
Ensure that "Download and install updates recommended" is accepted at the start of the upgrade process.

I don't really have peripherals, but I disconnected all extra devices and monitors, but it didn't help.

As far as I can tell, all of my device drivers are up-to-date.

    I tried using DISM:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 10.0.18362.1379

    Image Version: 10.0.18363.1440

[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
    The operation completed successfully.

    I also tried SFC:
    sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Nothing I've done over the last 6+ months has fixed the problem. Now I am getting warnings that 1909 will reach end-of-service, so I really have to get this resolved.

Log files from the latest attempt by Windows Update to update to 2004 are available in the following Google share: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1m-CRzxumanTlXILUPE3fXFLrCAalpetU?usp=sharing

    Included logs:
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log and setuperr.log
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.log and setuperr.log
    C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log
    MSInfo output - msinfo.nfo

Please let me know if there is anything else I can investigate in order to find the root cause. I would prefer to not have to do a clean install...

    :)

  2. 0xC1900101 - 0x30018 Windows 10 upgraded from 1909 to 2004 error code

If these are one of your code. I have successfully upgraded from Windows 10 Pro v1909 to v2004 as the error has been resolved. Microsoft techicial guy has spend hours try to resolved mine via CMD fixes but no successfully. I have spend hours trying to think
what should I do to avoid rollback to 1909 when upgraded stuck at 60% during final set up.

What I did to resolved this is doing this step:

Download Windows 10 v2004 here: Download Windows 10 via download tool now. Saved that ISO on your desktop.

Go to control panel, programs, under programs and features click turn windows features on or off (disabled all of it and apply ok) reboot pc

Click ISO to open in windows explorer and click setup

It's will installing your windows 10 2004 upgraded and wait until it completed successful.

When it all done and your windows 2004 has successful upgraded from 1909 go back to control panel, programs, under programs and features click turn windows features on or off (enabled some of it if you need it or all of it and apply ok) and reboot pc.

    All done!

The main issues failed with 0xC1900101 - 0x30018 Windows 10 upgraded from 1909 to 2004 was caused by Windows Features was enabled.

    Windows 10 Pro 1909 upgrade to 2004 or 20H2 freezes at 48% 0xC1900101

    Hi,

I am a new member and have signed up as I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out for the past few months.

I currently have Windows 10 Pro 1909 installed and Windows update has tried to install Windows 2004, however whilst installing on reboot it freezes at 48%. I have also tried previously to install 2004 with an ISO mounted and USB however with no luck.

Also I have tried installing Windows 20H2 both with ISO and with USB and again it just fails and freezes at 48%.

I have attached the error message I receive i have to force shutdown (once it freezes) and it rolls back any changes.

    Please can anyone help
