Updating laptop manually with CAB files

Hi all I have a problem that I am hoping that you can assist me with.

Background: My company has laptops that are used in an environment that is not connected to the internet, and I am trying to perform updates to the said laptops. When I am trying to update any .cab file that was downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog the files error out giving the error 0x80070002. All of the failed updates are for Microsoft Office 2016 (32 bit version). The laptop is running Win10 version 1809 (64 bit version), and using PowerShell to run the update (Add-WindowsPackage -Online -PackagePath "c:\packages\package.cab" -IgnoreCheck -NoRestart -PreventPending). I have gone through the Fix Windows update troubleshooting guide (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/fix-windows-update-errors) and stopped short of performing an in place upgrade and clean install, as both of those are not feasible at this time. Is there anyway to perform these updates without getting the error. I have also tried using cmd prompt and also a batch file and they produce the same result. Even when running as administrator. I am racking my brain on how to get this to work so that our laptops will be in compliance with our information assurance team.

All feedback will greatly beneficial. Thanks in advance.

    Jon

    manually install cab-files

    Hallo alltogther

Cause win10-auto-update frequently sucks my Broadband volume dry (updating 4 pc) - i decided to do it manually and

download the files from update-catalogue. All works with .msu files, but with cab files never.

I use dism ( DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:xxx), but the same happens also with PkgMgr

    CBS.log says:

And indeed, there is not an update.mum file in the .cab (in any i tried).

So the question is: How to install these files, or are they not for this purpose?

    Regards Georg.

    P.S The OS is a win10-pro, 10.0.15063

    • Rename file to KBnumber.сab (for example KB3176931.Cab)
    • Copy to folder C:\
    • Run command-prompt as admin (Right click on Windows icon and choose option). Check the image above.
    • Enter the command “DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\KBnumber.cab
    • This installs the CU CAB File. Check the screenshots below for example.
    • Your devices will restart once the installation is over. Else you may need to restart your PC

this is the first page for google search.

I already tried NOT naming the file. I used the original name. still not found

  4. Updating laptop manually with CAB files

Windows 10 update cab file Installer.

Problems with Windows 10 Updates are an ongoing issue now.
and the possible solution to overcome this is by downloading the updates manually from the Microsoft®Update Catalog or using tools like WHDownloader (formerly Windows Hotfix Downloader)

The issue is that some times the packages will be CAB files and that's when the normal users won't be having an option about what to do next. Thus, to tackle this issue, I have managed to make a tiny program which will indeed help to Install those Cab file packages in windows without any troubles. Updating laptop manually with CAB files :)

The program is in the attachment.
    Virus total results :
    32 Bit : VirusTotal
    64 Bit : VirusTotal

    32 Bit : Windows 10 CAB Installer.zip
    64 Bit : Windows 10 CAB x64.zip

    Note :
#. The 32 bit version will work for 64 bit as well, Only compilation is optimized.
#. Make sure the source cab file path does not have any space in between them. ("MyDocuments" instead of "My Documents")
