Updating to Windows 11 broke my external monitor

I recently updated to Windows 11, and I immediately regretted it. As soon as I did it, my laptop stopped recognizing my external monitor. I tried all the troubleshooting I could find, to no avail. I tried plugging it into my spouse's laptop which, by the way, runs Windows 11, and it worked perfectly, so I know it's not an issue with the monitor or cable. I even tried using an HDMI port on a dongle--no dice. I tried updating the driver, reinstalling the driver, to no effect. I reverted to Windows 10, but it's still not working. What gives?

    :)

    External Monitor with Quicken

    Hi Mark,

It is possible that the display resolution automatically adjusts after connecting to an external monitor. For us to properly isolate this issue, we have some questions for you:

    • Are you experiencing the same issue even without using the Quicken tool?
    • Have you checked if the display resolution settings of the Surface device and the external monitor is the same?
    • Have you tried checking for a graphics device driver update?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done to isolate the issue?

We're looking forward to your response.
