Windows 10: updating win 10 pc using flash usb drive, Won't work.

so about 2 days ago I received my flash usb 3.0 drive, And it worked! I updated windows on or well I started. I got to 22% and the usb was HOT. I took it out put it in the next day and it worked to, it kept updating. I do always take the usb drive out if it's hot, but my pc always says status: connected when the drive is in. I started to resume the update today but it keeps trying to download onto my pc's drive. not the usb How do I tell my pc to update onto the usb drive?

Error Message when updating from Win-7 to Won-10

I followed your suggestions (2nd Aug 19) for installing Win-10. Made the bootable flash drive successfully through the media creation tool. But when I attempted to upgrade and activate to Win-10 (64 bit) from within Win-7 (Pro-32 bit), I got the following error message:

Error # OxC1900101-Ox20017. " The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation"

I read the diagnostics under this error number and carried out the proposed fixes, i.e. update Win-7, uninstall Malwarebyte antivirus, disconnect all external hardware, e.g. printer, scanner, external hard drives. I then tried to repeat the steps to do the upgrade through the Win-10 bootable flash drive as before. Got the same error message.
Appreciate any further comments and suggestions as to (a) what does a failure in the SAFE_OS during boot operation mean, (b) what can I do to solve it. Is this anything to do with the hardware in my computer? I listed these in my first posting above.

Win 10 USB flash drive problem.

I have a USB device with flash memory that looks like a a FAT16 flash drive to a PC. The device stores VB.net product support software files. The device files are copied from the device to a PC an then installed.

As part of the flash update process (updating support software revision) the device firmware re-formats flash memory and sets the media change state. Win XP thru Win 8.1 refresh the devices file system and the device shows as an empty drive. From there we
copy update files to the device using the VB.net application.

We have a problem with Win 10 since the anniversary update. After the device re-formats the flash and sets the media change state Win 10 still shows all the files that have been erased. Trying to copy files to the device fails. The only way to recover is
to unplug, then plug in the USB connector.

Is there a way to programmatically force Win 10 to refresh its view of the USB flash in the device without unplugging it?

USB flash drive won't read, wants to format.

What file system did your friend use to format the USB flash drive?
Linux, MAC, Windows, etc.... if, he did the project on a different file format; the system may not think there is anything useful and wants to format it to make usable.
Or, the drive has gotten corrupted (like your friend pulled the drive before it was finished and the file table/partition info/etc. is corrupt).
Static could have gotten it, too.
