Windows 10: Updating Win10 to 1809 has stuck at Restart Required, troubleshooter does not help

I received the 1809 update this morning, but received a network error in the middle of it, which corrupted the database.


I ran the troubleshooter, then searched Microsoft forums for similar issues and after running the troubleshooter multiple times (both the troubleshooter in Windows Update settings itself and the standalone wu170509.diagcab), I was able to re-initialize the download and install. However, when I restarted, nothing updated and I now see this:





It occasionally tells me that my organization is managing these updates, which isn't accurate either; I manage them as administrator on a Windows Home installation. I just restrict automatic downloads and active hours.

I'm at a loss. I've clicked "Restart Now" and I've scheduled the restart, both of which do restart the machine but ultimately do not allow the installation to complete.


Running the troubleshooter (built in to windows update settings) does indicate that I still have an issue:





Running wu170509.diagcab gives me similar results (running as administrator, applying fixes automatically which does not apply the fix automatically):








I've run this several times now and have restarted more times than I can count. What are my options? Can I revert to an older version and try again? If so, how?

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.


Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
