  1. Updating Windows 7 to Windows 10 failed. Now W7 is unvalidated?

    Hi all,

New to the forum. Seem to have made an error somehow.

My son has a very old PC that has Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit installed, ran for years with no problems and verified as valid/genuine, but with it being an old OS and it having been viable for the W10 update, after some issues I decided to upgrade, one issue beiing my sons ability to bypass W7 admin rights and such via cmd before login.

So I went through the online straight update that was still available for a Windows 7 free upgrade, no issues arose and the download went ok, and it started updating, couple of restarts with the Windows 10 startup replacing Windows 7.

Then some time into the update http://www.windows.com/stopcode page pops up with a page fault in nonpaged area.

What failed. netr28ux.sys. Upon restart it stated an error during the second boot stage, during migate data operation?

The system then resorted to rolling back to the previous restore point and Windows 7, but the Windows 7 install now reports as non genuine.

Do I download the ISO and try again? Clean it all out n start a fresh install? Not sure if revallidating the old OS is best or stripping out what files the two lads need and starting afresh with the W7 product code is best?

I have had issues with the old OS due to I'm not sure what with my lad playing around, such as Windows Media Center disappearing. It's an old socket 775 system thats been around the block and rebuilt a few times in different configurations, still have the 25 character product key but no disc or case.
It certainly runs slower, I doubt the security due to how well kids can work around admin, and feel Windows 10 is a more valid product for two lads aged 11 and 13.

4 Windows 7 Ultimate PC's in the house, sons share the above, 7yr old daughter, partner, and mine. I occoasionally game and use Windows Media Center hence me holding onto 7.

    Q9550
    8gb memory
128gb SSD for OS with 38gb spare
1tb HDD with around 500gb spare

Admin, and three kids accounts on it.

    :)

  2. Restore Windows 7

How to restore windows 7 after windows 10 failed repeatedly? The automatized way crashed the computer and it won't repair either. Now I need a ISO to restore the op sys but that task is crazy tough to find. Microsoft should have a link for us returning to
W7 with these problems. Where to get W7 ISO?

Windows 10 Upgrade from Windows 7 in Window 7 Update restart loop

    Hi,

I am trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I have some failed Windows 7 updates, that have failed multiple times (not sure why), but I think it is preventing the Windows 10 upgrade. When I go through the W10 upgrade process and it says to restart
my PC, I do that, and it boots up in Windows 7 and asks to restart again. No matter how many times I restart, it keeps doing the same thing. I have no idea how to get these 'failed' W7 updates to install either.

    Thanks,

    J

I would run showkey plus from this forum and see if the current Windows 7 product key installed is what you think it is:
    ShowKeyPlus - Windows 10 Forums

You can also use the check product key function in the upper right corner to manually enter the Windows 7 product key you have and see if it is what you think it is for. Once you determine if the correct product key is installed and the version of Windows 7 it is for matches, you can try to re-activate it by opening a "Run As Administrator" Command Prompt and running:

    slui 4

Call the phone number, enter the installation ID provided, answer "one" to the question asked by the computer voice. See if you can re-activate. If Windows 7 does re-activate, you should then be able to do a clean install of the matching version of Windows 10 on the same computer and enter the Windows 7 product key to activate it. I would suggest shrinking the Windows 7 partition, making a new partition for Windows 10 and do a clean install to the new partition. Once you get Windows 10 running and activated, then you would have to delete the installed Windows 7 to remain compliant with the End Users License Agreement (EULA).

Yep, Win10 does make that go away.
