Windows 10: Upgrade assistant hanging on 99%

I am attempting to upgrade to W10 on my daughters Toshiba laptop via the upgrade assistant over W7, all goes well until the 99% stage. The process then hangs at this stage, I have given it up to 6 hours to complete.
Windows checks indicate W10 can be installed, and all updates are current.
I am going down the assisted technology route by the the way.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

windows 10 update hangs @ 99% and now past free update

Tried several times to upgrade win 7 to win 10 but it always hangs at 99%, and now it is past the free upgrade. Still show windows update assistant at 99% and afraid to restart computer or try it again.

As per the issue description you are unable to upgrade to Windows 10 as it get stuck at 99%. It took you 25 hours to reach that 99%, this could be if internet speed is slow or due to some hardware issue.

I contacted Microsoft, they took control of the computer and was told I was apparantely trying to upgrade from an earlier version of 10, so I'd obviously clicked on an incorrect link.
Anyway, as I type, 10 is loading.
