Windows 10: Upgrade Destroyed my Laptop

About a fortnight ago, there were upgrades waiting to be installed. I was about to close my laptop and it said that it would do the upgrades then shut down, so I left it and went to bed. The laptop was off next morning but I didn't use it. My son (IT Programmer) came home from overseas with his kids and I lent him my laptop as his had damaged power socket. 30 odd hours later he managed to get it going again, but had to install 10 from scratch as drivers were corrupt, keyboard would not function nor the 'pad'. Not even the mouse. He eventually got into it!!!

It was impossible to get into the laptop to use settings or anything else. The laptop had not been used, and he thinks the laptop shut down in the midst of an upgrade (it was on power) and corrupted the whole thing. All my stuff on laptop had been lost, including a special programme (to me) that refused to run on my pc but ran well on my laptop (same windows ver).

I agree,.. my first upgrade was on my tower, running windows 7..

I first thought that i personally destroyed my restore point on my drive.

Needless to say, i was distraut.

My second experience with microsoft windows 10 was when my 1500 dollar laptop was maimed by microsoft.

It is a new asus with 8.1 and upon 10 upgrade my factory restore was IMMEDIATELY destroyed!!!!

Proof is in the pudding, as they say.

windows 10 messed up my laptop

I installed windows 10 last week. Now I can't get on my laptop. When I get on it and my screen comes up it just keeps flashing off and on. How do I fix this or has this upgrade destroyed my laptop.

 

Unfortunately the need to keep backups of important data is a hard lesson to learn. We highly recommend Macrium Reflect Free here. You are convinced you are justified to blame Microsoft for this one, but hardware does eventually wear out and fail too, and when that happens you have nobody to blame but yourself for not having a backup.

i agree navy, but it was windows that shut down the laptop not hardware. On reinstall, everything was spot on, no discrepancies. So going by that, it was software, not hardware.
