Windows 10: Upgrade from 7: Update Error Code 80200053, & MediaCreationTool error

A couple other important questions. I know Windows 7 installation can have issues when multiple drives are plugged in. When I installed it on my SSD, it apparently put some boot info on my HDD and required that info to boot properly.

So, when I plan on re-installing Windows 7 now, I will have just my SSD plugged in. However, one of my two HDD's will be formatted and the other will have files on it that I want to keep. Should I upgrade from 7 to 10 with that HDD with saved files on it plugged in, or should I hook it up after Windows 10 installs?

 

I had issues with doing mine through Windows Updates but I persisted and it's came through. I suggest the best way is via Windows Updates.

Just make sure your 7 is fully patched.
Do a System cleanup, and run wuauclt.exe /updatenow.

You might want to restart Windows Updates Service in Services as well.

 

I figured the Media Creation tool would be the best way since it won't require me to update Windows 7 with hundreds of updates. Or... will it?

 

Windows Updates keep your system up to date with latest fixes. It's better to let MS decides when your system is ready to upgrade rather that doing it yourself.

 

Kk. Should I leave my drive with all my saved files plugged in during the upgrade, or keep it unplugged until Windows 10 is installed?

 

Maybe you have some maleware. Go here to bleepingcomputer.com and download adwcleaner. Very safe. I've used it many many times. Now try the upgrade with media cretion tool. If that doesn't work try a repair install. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
