upgrade from LTSC 2015 to 2016 not working

    Hello Forum,

I need to bring a computer that controls a machine from Windows 7 pro to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. That is the version that the producer of the machine is delivering with newer systems, so chances are best that their software will rund smoothly. The idea is to go to LTSB 2015 first and then to LTSB 2016 (because the direct path is not allowed by Microsoft).

Part 1 was no problem. LTSB 2015 seems to work just nice. But when trying to go from there to LTSB 2016, the update won't let me keep my programs. I only can select "keep personal files only" or "Nothing". The desired option "keep personal files and apps" is grayed out and at the bottom it says "Your files, apps, and settings can't be kept because you're installing an edition of Windows that's different than the one you're currently using."

So in what way could these two versions be different? I first thought it was language, the 2015 was first en-GB and the 2016 en-us. But then I rolled back and tried again with both versions en-US. Same result.

I suspected that the problem could be that LTSC was not yet activated. So I did the activation and this also made no difference.

If someone has an idea how to solve this problem or what else to check I would appreciate that very much. I hope this is a good place to ask. If you should recommend another site for this admittedly specific question, let me also know.

    Thanks for any help.

    :)

  3. Updating over 1000 machines with "Windows 10 Enterprise 2015/2016 LTSB" to "Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019"

    Hi!

    Our customers have:

    • over 200 Windows machines with Windows 10 Enterprise 2015 LTSB/1507/10240
    • over 800 Windows machines with Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB/1607/14393
We have our UWP based POS app running on them, however - the app shared a big part of it's code-base with our other apps - Windows Services, Xamarin, ASP.NET Core Apps and other, from which all can use .NET
Standard 2.0, but due to our UWP POS app on above mentioned windows versions, the shared code base needs to be in .NET Standard 1.4.

That begins to be a bigger and bigger issue with the ongoing development and more and more customers.

What is the easiest and safest way to update those machines to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019/1809/17763?

Is there any chance to do it remotely? (We have remote access to those machines via TeamViewer)

    File name: en_office_professional_plus_2016_x86_x64_dvd_6962141.iso

I'm thinking option one is going to be my only option. I'm fine with that as long as I can get Outlook to work with my ISP's pop3 e-mail. Last time I tried that with the new 2016 install I could not get it to work, no way no how. All the same settings that work with the ISO install?

EDIT: I should mention, for me as far as I know, neither of these options are a subscription. They use two different keys but they are perpetual one time activation licenses. I only ran the new download briefly though, as I could not get outlook to work. I bailed and went back to what works.
