Windows 10: Upgrade from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2 fails because of Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4

When I try to upgrade from Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2, the upgrade fails because of "Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4".Running SetupDiag, I get this line in ScanResult.xml: <DriverPackage Inf="oem5.inf" BlockMigration="True" HasSignedBinaries="False"/>Which corresponds to "Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4":Get-WindowsDriver -Online -Driver oem5.inf Driver : oem5.inf OriginalFileName : C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnms001.inf_amd64_cf4b76d3d4b6330c\prnms001.inf Inbox : False ClassName : Printer ClassDescription : Pri

I got all through this until: Look for "Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4" or of similar fare, XPS Class Driver

Microsoft XPS Document Writer is not in the list! Dead in the water..

 

Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4 not available as printer option on Windows 10 Pro

Hi,

I would like to install the Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4 on a PC running Windows 10 Pro. I did this successfully on one PC already as follows:

1. Go to Control Panel | Hardware and Sound | Devices and Printers
   
2. Click "Add a Printer"
   
3. Click "The printer I want isn't listed"
   
4. Choose "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings"
   
5. Select "Use an existing port:" and leave this set to the default "LPT1: (Printer Port) and click Next
   
6. In the "Install the Printer drive" dialog box, select Microsoft as the Manufacturer and click Windows Update to update the list of printers.
   
7. After Windows Update completes, select the "Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4" in the Printers column (with Microsoft still selected as the Manufacturer)
   

I followed this same procedure on another PC running Windows 10 Pro, and after Windows Update completes, "Microsoft XPS Document Writer v4" is not listed as an option in the Printers column.

If anyone can explain why this option would be available on one Windows 10 Pro PC and not on another Windows 10 Pro PC, I would greatly appreciate it. Any suggested workarounds that might allow me to install it on the other PC would be appreciated as well.
