  1. Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 Pro Recycle Bin is corrupted message

I actually had about 10 hours of help from Microsoft technicians on this and only by accident did it get fixed. It wasn't actually fixed, as it returned a week or so later. The reason it returned was that I was asked if I liked the picture on my screen after returning to my computer and beginning another work session. This is the picture that pops up after you press enter and just before you are about to sign back in to your desktop. I'm no tech wizard, far from it, but this was what happened next:

My screen is initially black, I press enter, my screen saver photo pops up and in the right corner it asks if I like the photo that has been presented by Microsoft. The sign in screen hasn't shown up yet, but I decided that I wanted to change the screen to a new photo. There is no choice of photo, only the option to let Windows give me another screen the next time I leave my desktop for enough time to bring up my screen saver. I had indicated several times at that corner location that I would like a change. About the 4th time I did that, a green screen popped up instead of a photo. But now, when I hit enter, instead of getting a sign in option, a black screen with an error message popped up. The problem became more clear to me and to solve it myself this time all I had to do was reboot once although the first time I had the problem, Microsoft techs had me reboot 4 times in a row, get to the sign in screen, sign in and then:

Go to settings, personalization and change the screen saver photo. Worked like a charm and I've had no problems since.

I hope the Windows tech guys see this, as it could save them a lot of time in the future with this problem, when it arises.

The Recycle Bin message is connected to a specific screen saver and not all of them.

I hope this helps someone. Todd

    :)

  3. Recycle bin corrupted (repeatedly) on external (encrypted) hard drive

I have a portable encrypted hard drive.

I use it on my Windows 10 Pro desktop PC (10.0.17134 Build 17134), a Windows 10 laptop (unsure of build as being used elsewhere by a colleague) and a Windows 7 laptop.

I have *no* problems on either laptop. No error messages - EVEN IF the desktop has reported an error.

On the Windows 10 Pro desktop, I frequently get a message telling me that the recycle bin on the hard drive is corrupted and asking if I want to empty it.

    I have tried:

    1. Saying "Yes" and emptying the hard drive.
    2. Deleting the recycle bin ($recycle.bin) on all drives from Windows Explorer.
    3. Opening an elevated command prompt and deleting the recycle bin from all drives using rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin (and repeating for drives D, E, F and G).
I have followed all the instructions in Windows 10 corrupted Recycle bin

This resolves the problem... for a day or two, if I'm lucky. Then it returns.

Something keeps corrupting it - and only on the desktop computer. No other drives on that computer have an issue reported with corrupt recycle bins.

    Any suggestions?

CORRUPTED RECYCLE BIN IN WINDOWS 10

    Hi Herbert,

For us to narrow down your concern with your recycle bin in Windows 10, we would like to know the following:

    • Are you getting any error messages? If so, what is the error message?
    • When you say "corrupted", are you unable to access/open your recycle bin?
    • When did the issue first begin?
    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue?

We look forward to your response.
