Windows 10: Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro via "Settings/Update & Security/Activation"?

If I upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from the "settings" menu from Windows 10 home, does the update process remove all my installed software, or does it just install like a Windows Update installing new features without changing my software/settings etc?

Any advice welcome?

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

 

Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro

This is what I used

Follow these steps to upgrade from Windows 10 Home if you have a Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Pro Pack, Windows 8.1 Pro, or Windows 8.1 Pro Pack product key:

• Select the Start button, then select Settings >
  Update & security > Activation.

• Select Change product key, and then enter this 25-character default product key:

Important

This default product key will upgrade your device to Windows 10 Pro, but won't activate it.

• Select Next to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.
