    Upgrade WIN10?

    I have installed Win10. I got Win10Home 32 bit. I'm pretty sure I had 64bit Win8.1 but it's gone now so I can't check. Is it possible to upgrade to Win10 Pro 64bit?

Thanks. That solved that. I thought you had to load up each country as you needed it.

    Upgrade WIN10?

I recommend running ShowKeyPlus to check and confirm which Win8.1 you had (Home x86 or Home x64). If it turns out to have been x64 then you can create new installation media for Win8 Homex64. Upgrade that and you've got Win10 Home x64.

And welcome to the forum *Smile

  5. You can't move from a 64 to a 32 bit, it would only choose the bit that your previous system used. to check, type system into your computer's search and see if the system type lists 64 bit or not. If not, you can be certain you had 32bit the last time too.

Not directly. You will have to do two steps. First, purchase the Win 10 Pro Pack upgrade for $99 and upgrade your existing Windows 10 Home 32bit to Windows 10 Pro 32bit. Make sure you keep your Pro Pack upgrade key! Then if you want 64bit, you will have to do a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 64bit. There is no way to do an in place upgrade from 32bit to 64bit.

ShowKeyPlus says my previous Win8.1 was " Win 8.1 RTM Core Retail " but gives no more info.

    Upgrade WIN10?

I dug through my drawers and found my copy of Win8.1. I have a 64bit installation disk. If I reinstall this version and then re-dowload Win 10, I should get Win10 64bit, right?

But is it woth the trouble? Maybe not.

If it's an oem 8.1 disk that goes with the device then you are good to go. If it is a retail 8.1 disk that is not currently installed on any other device then you also ready to go.

Don't forget to make sure Win8.1 is re-activated before moving on to the Win10 upgrade. No need to bother with any 8.1 updates, only the successful re-activation. And during the Win10 upgrade, always skip to the next page whenever it asks for a license key.

Why would you re-install Windows 8.1? The only reason to re-install Windows 8.1 is to gain activation for Windows 10, which you already have. Unless the Windows 8.1 disk that you have is Windows 8.1 Pro - and you have the product key for Pro.

Going from Home to Pro, and going from 32bit to 64bit are two entirely different operations. Going from 32bit to 64bit, the outcome is the same - you need a clean install. Since you have Windows 10 Home already activated on your computer, there is no need to go back to Windows 8.1 - all you have to do is clean install Windows 10 Home 64bit.

  11. @NavyLCDR he wants 64bit... but if he only has 4 GB Ram (which it looks like), he might as well stay with 32bit. No good reason not to keep it that way (that I can see).

At the moment the OP is on Win10x86 when it should be x64. Win8.1 x64 has not been upgraded to Win10

    Upgrade WIN10?

And it doesn't need to be. x86 and x64 use exactly the same product keys and licenses regardless of if it is Windows 8.1 or Windows 10.

    Nice edit lol *Smile

So you're saying you don't need to re-install Win8.1 even if the wrong version was originally upgraded? (Yeah - I learn something new every day) *Wink

Edit: Don't answer - We are cross-posting here!!!!

Edit2 : We are all cross-posting now!! (See the post below)
