Windows 10: Upgrade Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Education

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade my wife's laptop from Windows 7 Enterprise Edition SP1 which she got at her previous academic institution to Windows 10 Education Edition which we purchased via her current academic institution. I would like to do so by updating the existing Windows installation, not re-installing and effectively wiping all my installed software, setup, etc.. Theguide that the University's IT website directs us to the generic Windows 10 installation media creation tool page. This Microsoft page suggests that it is possible to upgrade from Windows 7 Enterprise to Windows 10 Education. However, when I run that installation media creation tool, it says my version of Windows cannot be upgraded directly through the tool.Another post on this forum suggests that the problem is that the generic installation media guide doesn't know about Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education, and says you can download the ISO directly from thespecific academic products download page. However, at that link there is no longer any option to download an ISO as the old screenshot would suggest and I only have the option of downloading another installation media creation tool. I tried using that thinking perhaps it's a different tool, but it was the exact same tool that produced the exact same problem.


Therefore, could someone please advise how I can update the Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 without having to re-install everything? In the past I have previously successfully upgraded two PCs from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Pro, so it's a bit frustrating to run into this problem with the Enterprise and Education Editions.

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:

• Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
• Try different keyboard or mouse.
• Restart computer, repeatedly.
• Google for related issues.
• Update Bios, because why not.
• Create boot media and revert to windows 7.

The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

 

Upgrading from Windows 7 Enterprise to 10 Education

I am trying to do the above upgrade, the download was the mediacreationtool.exe and when I run it, it says there is a problem and this tool cannot install Windows 10. I've checked the upgrade path and it is possible to upgrade from 7 enterprise to 10 education.
No other error messages.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
