    Upgrade Windows 7 to 10 Error 0x8007001f

    Hi Folks

I've been trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for the last 2 weeks but to no avail. I will summarise below what I have tried to date. I purchased a Windows 10 Pro licence for this. I have tried to follow all of the various tips out there but I'm beginning to feel defeated.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me understand better how to get around these errors. Last one was error code 0x8007001f but I believe this is a generic code.

I would rather stick with windows 7 than go through a clean install. Aim of this is to do an upgrade install.7

Preparation I have done before attempting the install:
    1. Uninstalled all external anti-virus software
    2. Placed PC in safe boot disabling all non-microsoft services
    3. Installed all recommended windows updates
    4. Run sfc /scannow with no errors
    5. Run windows installer cleanup utility with no errors
    6. Removed and deleted other user accounts on the PC
    7. After each attempted install, removed $WINDOWS.~BT, $GetCurrent and Software Distribution folders.
    8. Checked BIOS - have current version
    9. All drivers running current version
    10. Removed all external devices

I have attempted to install via the following means:
    - Windows 10 Update assistant
    - ISO mounted to usb using media creation tool

I would really appreciate any help you could give, as it's really starting to frustrate me.

    :)

    Upgrade Windows 7 to 10 Error 0x8007001f

Unless you have a program(s) that you have to have, I would strongly suggest that you do a clean install... Doing an update from W7 to 10 is going to be problematic at best and impossible at worst.. Bite the bullet, do a clean install... *Tongue

Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    SetupDiag.exe

Open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for:
c:\setupdiag\results.log > post a share link into the thread

Run the beta log collector and post a zip into this thread:
    log collector v2-beta08.zip
    (extract > open)

    Run through this Upgrade checklist:

    UPGRADE CHECK LIST:
Run through this check list before the next upgrade attempt:

    1) remove nonessential hardware
    docks
    USB devices
    printers
    headset
    speakers
    bluetoot devices
USB drives (other than a windows 10 iso if used for the upgrade)
USB Wireless Mouse or Keyboard Receiver, USB Wireless Network Card,

    2) These should be the only attached devices:
    wired mouse
    wired keyboard
    monitor

Any of these that have been done in the past week are not necessary to repeat:

    3) open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste: (repair file system)
    chkdsk /x /f /r
This may take many hours so plan to run overnight
Find the chkdsk report in the event viewer using the information in this link and post into the thread:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Performance Maintenance Tutorials
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

    4) open administrative command prompt and copy and paste: (repair operating system)
    sfc /scannow
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    5) update windows (have all recommended updates installed) and reboot after updates

    6) uninstall all non-Microsoft antivirus software
(This includes always on and manual software.)

    7) Verify that the drive has > 27 GB free space (At least 25 GB is needed for creating dumps)

    8) Place the computer in clean boot:

    11) Run disk cleanup to clean temporary and system files

    12) 1. Browse to "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete the contents of the folder.
    2. Press Windows key + X > Click Command Prompt (Admin) then type "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
    Hit Enter
    3. Open Control Panel > Windows Update and Windows 10 should begin downloading
    Script Reset Windows Update Agent

    13) Delete the folder $WINDOWS.~BT

When chkdsk /x /f /r C: is run overnight find the results in the event viewer using the information in this link:
Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 Windows 10 Tutorials

    C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /x /f /r
The type of the file system is NTFS.
    Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

I have to agree with @Tews

All my upgrades (even those that were initially fine ) went tits-up eventually.

    Upgrade Windows 7 to 10 Error 0x8007001f

Thanks for the feedback folks. Like I said, clean install is my least favourite option, even though I fully realise and appreciate the benefits. I do have some software which really is just too difficult to start from scratch with.

I've attached the info you listed.

Upgrade Windows 7 to 10 Error 0x8007001f [IMG]

The partition layout of disk 0 (shown as disk 1 in Partition Manager) is non standard and was customized by the manufacturer. A normal Win 7 installation will have a layout:
    • 100MB System Reserved, NTFS format and marked as Active
    • C drive.
A normal Windows 10 installation will have:
    • 550MB Reserved partition, NTFS format and marked as Active
    • C drive.
Since you know how to use Minitool Partition Manager. Suggest to use it:
    • Create a bootable installation USB from the Windows ISO using: Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
    • Delete the 1st 2 partitions (102MB, 15GB) then create a 550MB partition, format as NTFS, label "System Reserved", assign a letter R, mark as Active
    • Move C drive next to the newly created 550MB. should look like the screen shot below, note H: drive should be C: in your case:

Upgrade Windows 7 to 10 Error 0x8007001f [IMG]
    • Boot up the USB created in step 1, on the first screen, press SHIFT+F10 to open the Admin command prompt then type:
bcdboot C:\Windows /s R: /f BIOS =====> This will create the BCD to boot Windows and store in R: (550MB partition)
    • Reboot the PC then try to upgrade again
NOTE: It is advisable to create a backup image of the whole disk 0, just in case anything goes wrong then you can restore back before making any modification.
To create a backup image Use:
    Macrium Reflect Free Edition x64
    Macrium Reflect Free Edition x86

Your report shows that you are using improperly activated software.
This forum's Rules clearly state that help will not be provided to those using Non genuine software installations.
