Windows 10: Upgraded to Windows 10, now it won't read my DVD-R disks.

I had no problem with these same disks being read when I had Windows 7. Now that I've upgraded to Windows 10, suddenly my drive won't read the disks. These are blank disks that are the same exact ones I successfully burned just months before upgrading. Now when I insert the disk, it says, "Windows can't read the disk in drive E. Make sure that the disk uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disk is unformatted, you need to format it before using it." But it won't give me the option to format it.

No DVD-R drive in device manager or This PC after upgrading to Windows


Hi,

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few weeks ago and since that time I don't have a DVD – R drive. I still have my DVD – RW, but the other drive is missing from the device manager and the computer list. What happened to it? What steps can I take to recover it.

DVD Drive not Reading DVD+RW or DVD+R DL disks

My DVD drive (F) will not write on a
DVD+RW disk or a DVD+R DL disk. I have no problem using regular DVD's. (only RW & DL). I've researched online and I uninstalled the driver as per the instructions and restarted my computer but the problem
wasn't fixed. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

Burned DVD's Work in SOME players

In that case, it is possible the problem is with the blu ray player not supporting DVD+R disks.

Suggest you check to make sure: it's possible you can overcome this problem by simply burning DVD-R instead of DVD+R. Check your blu ray compatibility list first.
