Windows 10: Upgraded UEFI firmware for surfacebook 2, device overheating as a result

Hi guys,So recent firmware update as documented here to UEFI is preventing me from undervolting my surface book 2 via throttlestop. As a result the laptop has severe heating issues, and greatly underperforms to boot.I have a support case open and will be getting a call back tomorrow. It's quite likely that someone will tell me that I cannot downgrade the firmware. My response is why? It's a $5000 device and, irreparably downgrading the performance, albeit unintentionally: is not okay - especially as other device manufacturers allow for a factory reset of their BIOS, placing the control back in

• The OS is Windows 10 Version 1607
  
• Current version - Surface UEFI firmware: 106.1624.768.0
  
• Attempted update - Surface UEFI firmware: 107.1741.768.0

Attempts to install the UEFI firmware through the Surface Installer and manually in the device manager have installed the driver but the firmware does not install upon restarting. After restarting twice, the driver reports that it is a different version than firmware on the device and stops presenting an option to restart.

Installing Surface Pro Firmware with WinPE on a USB drive also does not result in the UEFI firmware being installed, though another firmware update successfully applied via this process the first time the device rebooted from WinPE.

The driver can be rolled back to the version which matches the actual version of the firmware.

Searches on other forums suggest that when this occurs, that the device is defective and needs to be replaced by Microsoft.

There's 2 steps to boot the OS:
1. UEFI->bootloader (bootia32.efi/bootx64.efi)
2. bootloader->kernel

For some Atom-based systems, the UEFI only supported 32-bit bootloaders (step 1).

For Linux, the 32-bit GRUB bootloader can still load a 64-bit kernel (step 2).

Windows does not support this. A 64-bit installation ISO only has the 64-bit bootloader. As Kari said, at this point you might as well just try the 32-bit Windows ISO.
