  1. Upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit Windows 10: USB drive does not show up in Boot Menu

    Under System About
System type: 32-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I assumed that this meant that I'd be able to upgrade my OS from 32-bit to 64-bit.

    I formatted a USB drive.

I downloaded the Windows 10 ISO using the MediaCreationTool.

I used Rufus to make the USB bootable

    Partition scheme: MBR

    Target system: BIOS (or UEFI-CSM)

    File system: NTFS

    I restarted my computer.

Pressed F12 to open Boot Menu.

    USB drive was not there.

    Checked BIOS settings.

I set USB drives as priority in "Boot Sequence" by moving it to the top of the list.

    Legacy was enabled.

USB drive still does not appear in Boot Menu.

Stuck. Not sure how to proceed from here.

Ran msinfo32 to get the following information:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro

    Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134

    System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.

    System Model: OptiPlex 3010

    System Type: X86-based PC***

Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20 GHz, 3201 Mhz, 4 Cores 4 Logical Processors

    BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A21, 5/28/2018

    SMBIOS Version 2.7

    Embedded Controller Version 255.255

    BIOS Mode: Legacy

*** I noticed this information contradicts what I saw under Settings>System>About. . . does this mean that I'm unable to upgrade to 64-bit after all?

    :)

Windows 10 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade

I took advantage of the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 but was running 32 bit software at the time. Consequently, I have Windows 10 32 bit.

I would like to upgrade to the 64 bit version. I was thinking about doing this in a staged process.

Is it possible to do the following?

    1. Install an additional hard drive and install Windows 10 64 bit.

    2. Keep existing drive with Windows 10 32 bit.

    3. Run as a dual boot system while I gradually transfer software and files to 64 bit.

    4. When transfer is complete, format existing drive (32 bit) and make additional drive (64 bit) the primary boot drive.

    Thanks for your help.

    Windows 10 Upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit

So, Windows 10 Upgrade is being rolled out worldwide, and I have 'reserved' my upgrade.

Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I'm planning to 'upgrade' it to Windows 10 64-bit (via fresh install, of course).

After reading many references, these will be the steps I'll do:

    1. Let the "Get Windows 10" app upgrade my OS to Windows 10 32-bit
    2. Note the activation key
    3. Download the Installation Media for Windows 10, but choosing 64-bit instead
    4. Perform a clean install
    5. Reactivate using the activation key in Step #2

(Of course I'll backup my data first.)

However, I still have some questions:

    1. On Windows 7, the activation key does not differ between 32- or 64-bit versions. Is it still so with Windows 10?
    2. Will I be able to download a different architecture on Step #3?
    3. Is there anything I need to prepare beforehand?

    Thank you for your assistance.
