  1. Upgrading from win7pro to win 10 RTM

For examples I am using office 2010 so do I need to take all docs backup to dvd disc to be reinstalled.

Mail (seems to be a real issue) if I have use the new mail app (win 10), have found you instruction how to setup internet carrier account (Orange France) re pop and smtp settings.

how do you move all emails in folders and contacts list, etc

I am sure you and others users have many other items that care has to be taken care with.

Could someone prepare a tutorial to assist us so when the update has been carried out we have lost all our important data

    Thanks

  2. Upgrade win7 pro to win10 pro on a pc with uefi win10 home

Hi. I have bought several Asuspro a4110 pc, all with windows 10 home.

I downgraded them to win 7 pro using our VL legit key, only to find that the PC is not fully compatible with win7 and gives many USB problems.

Now i'm going to upgrade the win7pro to win10pro, but i cant manage to do it. The win 10 setup keeps upragding to win10home, maybe getting the key from the uefi, and never letting me upgrade the installed win7pro key .

    Why?

  3. Windows 10 multitasking snap system borked

    My res is 1920 x 1200.

What is the RTM version? I thought the Win 10 launch is the RTM version. I upgraded from 8.1 as stated in my above post.

It seem like everyone is calling 10240 the RTM version.

You should always do a backup before installing a new OS. If, for no other reason, to restore if something goes wrong.

You don't need to backup files to keep them, all files should be retained, as should all settings for Office (including Outlook). You don't need to move any mail. If you're going to switch to the Windows 10 email app, then you have to start over. There is no way to "import" or "move" emails into it, since this is just connecting to any online based email account you might want to use.

I don't know how you would import contacts from another system, but contacts from a previous windows should carry over.

As such, there isn't really much of a list here...

You should contact your email provider to get smtp and pop settings. I doubt many of us here would speak French enough to track it down on a French website.

Thanks for your quick response, I fully understand what you have suggested. Can you confirm that windows live mail will be carried over to Win 10 as Microsoft windows media and windows essential's will be removed at installations, that is why I was asking about moving all folder, contacts etc.

Hopefully you can clear this up
    Thanks

You didn't say anything about Windows Live Mail. You said you had Office.

Regardless, yes, if Windows live mail is installed, it should still be working after the upgrade.

Windows media *player* is not being removed from Windows. Windows Media *Center* is, they are two different things. WMC is the DVR-like functionality that was a purchased add-on to Windows 8.x, but came with Windows 7.

I have not heard anything about Windows Essentials being removed during an upgrade. We've heard the Windows essentials will no longer be distributed, that won't stop existing installs from continuing to work. There has been a lot of conflicting reports on this. There are a number of people still using Windows Live Writer in Windows 10, as well as the Windows Live Mail application.

For example, just three weeks ago strollin posted this:

Regarding Microsoft Office versions, I wonder what will happen with existing installations of Office 2003 Pro after the upgrade to 10? There will be many instances on Windows 7 machines.

Why would you think anything would happen to these instances?

We can play this game forever, "Microsoft didn't say such and such, so it must mean they're not going to support it". While Office 2003 is out of support and is no longer getting security patches (which is reason enough to migrate to something newer), it is likely to continue working just fine. I've seen very few instances of Microsoft ever breaking one of their old apps with a new OS.. they typically put compatibility fixes in for them, even old out of date apps.

Office 2003 is not simply "out of support". Microsoft says this about Office 2003 and Windows 8:

"Microsoft Office 2003 suites and applications are not compatible with Windows 8.

We recommend you check the version of Microsoft Office installed on your PC before you upgrade to Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro. To do this, go to this article: What version of Office am I using?

If you have a Microsoft Office 2003 suite or application on your PC, you will have problems running it on Windows 8 (emphasis mine). We recommend you upgrade Office to a newer version that is compatible with Windows 8"

Office 2003 applications are not compatible with Windows 8

I don't expect that this is less true with regard to Windows 10. I don't know what will happen when Windows 7 systems with Office 2003 are upgraded to Windows 10, but I would like to because I am often in a position of needing to advise customers. I can't just tell them that Office 2003 will "continue working just fine".

Microsoft does not officially support it, and lots of people are running Office 2003 without issue on Windows 8 and 8.1. There may be some compatibility issue with some minor component, but from what I've seen.. everything works.

So I guess I'd better do a backup before upgrading. But since you said that all the files will be retained, what exactly do I need to backup? Files and applications on the C drive?
BTW, I'm choosing between some free backup software, such as easeus todo backup, FBackup, and acebackup.
Anyone has any experience with these freeware?

Victek, The Store (Beta) has Office for Windows 10. All you have to do is install its apps (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Windows 10 also comes with a version of OneNote. There may be a learning curve, but at least the basics are there.

You can probably continue to use Office 2003 Pro, but unless you need more than Word, Excel and PowerPoint, there really isn't a reason to keep it.

Try Macrium Reflect free version. Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

I believe this will create an image of your system which can be restored.
