Windows 10: Upgrading Ryzen CPU

Hi guys, A little bit of advice please. I am going to upgrade my processor, it is compatible with my motherboard and Bios. It is a straight swap of an AMD Ryzen 5 for a slightly more powerful one. Do I need to remove the old processor from device manager in Windows 10 Pro (21H1) before the change? Once the new CPU is in place, does Windows 10 recognise it automatically on the next boot up? I understand that CPU performance drops while switching to battery and you are facing performance issues with Chrome browser as well. We will certainly help you with this issue.



For better clarity, please let us know:

1) What is the version of Windows 10 installed on your computer?

Press Windows Key + R to open Run and type winver and click on OK

2) Are you aware of any changes, after which you have noticed this performance issue?



Meanwhile, you can try a few steps and let us know how it goes.



Method 1: Change Power Plan to High Performance.

• Press Windows + R key to open Run window.
• Type control and press Enter.
• Double click on Power Options
• Select the option High Performance.
• Check if there is any difference.

Method 2: Update drivers from manufacturer website.

I would also suggest you to update drivers from
AMD website and check.



If Chrome browser is using high CPU, you may want to check the article

I would also suggest you to check with the computer manufacturer with respect to CPU throttling and other BIOS settings which may curtail the hardware performance for power saving.

New CPU cooler for Ryzen questions and suggestions

Your Ryzen 7 1700X should be close to 4.0GHz anyway, so overclocking is pointless.
If the computer freezes then there should be an error listed in the crash logs, most likely a clock watchdog timeout, changing the cooler won't fix it.
I'd suggest leaving the CPU stock and clocking your Ram up a bit.

Yes, the Windows 10 Upgrade will work with the Ryzen 7 2700x, there should be no need for the full version, that is fully supported on Windows 10, if you have any difficulty after the upgrade, you can download the driver from this page:
