Windows 10: Upgrading to 20h2, problems with Windows updates

I have some Windows 10 machines which are not updating via the normal Windows update screen. I have had this problem before when the pc was still running 1909. So I updated the machine to 20h2, which seemed to fix it. But not this time.I had no issues with the upgrade to 20h2 however I still cannot install all the general updates Microsoft security patches etc. Some start and get stuck in the 90's % and others don't get past zero.Any suggestions about what the issue would be?

Trouble upgrading 20H2 with windows update

I'm running 10 version 20H2 (OS Build 19042.630) x64. Windows update tries to install KB4592438 2020-12 Cumulative update. Each time I run the windows upgrade, it fails saying some files are missing or have problems. Here is what I have tried: sfc /scannow, various flavors of DISM, stopped services, cleared out the upgrade cache, and restarted services. All of these result in exactly the same message.




Should I be worried about this? Can I ignore this? What other steps should I try?

 

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:

• Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
• Try different keyboard or mouse.
• Restart computer, repeatedly.
• Google for related issues.
• Update Bios, because why not.
• Create boot media and revert to windows 7.

The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

 

Unable to install 20H2 from USB or upgrade from Windows update

Thanks for the suggestion. Just before I was about to use the upgrade assistant, Windows update demanded a reboot. After reboot, the system was upgraded to 20H2, 24 hours after I clicked on the upgrade offer. System info indicates 20H2 but the update screen still offers to upgrade to 202H.
