Upgrading to 64-bit through USB doesn’t boot

When I first upgraded to Windows 10, I didn’t realize I got the 32-bit version, but I thought it wouldn’t matter too much so I left it be. But recently I can’t download applications due to being 32-bit, so I decided to try upgrading to 64-bit by following a YouTube tutorial. So I followed the instructions, downloaded the media creation tool in my USB and tried to boot my laptop up with it, but when I do it just shows me the Windows logo and then a blank blue screen before turning off. I’ve checked whatever might’ve been wrong/turned off in BIOS but it still stays the same. Does this mean that t

    Windows 10 Upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit

So, Windows 10 Upgrade is being rolled out worldwide, and I have 'reserved' my upgrade.

Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I'm planning to 'upgrade' it to Windows 10 64-bit (via fresh install, of course).

After reading many references, these will be the steps I'll do:

    1. Let the "Get Windows 10" app upgrade my OS to Windows 10 32-bit
    2. Note the activation key
    3. Download the Installation Media for Windows 10, but choosing 64-bit instead
    4. Perform a clean install
    5. Reactivate using the activation key in Step #2

(Of course I'll backup my data first.)

However, I still have some questions:

    1. On Windows 7, the activation key does not differ between 32- or 64-bit versions. Is it still so with Windows 10?
    2. Will I be able to download a different architecture on Step #3?
    3. Is there anything I need to prepare beforehand?

    Thank you for your assistance.

Upgrading to 64-bit through USB doesn’t boot

    No boot from USB

As Kyhi mentioned, If you're booting from a USB drive, it doesn't matter what you have on your laptop drive.
How are you pointing to boot from the USB drive, by BIOS priority or by boot menu during POST?
Follow these steps to open the Startup menu when the computer is powered off.

    1. Turn on the computer.
    2. Immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu opens.
    3. Select the EFI USB drive

PS.: You can only boot as UEFI if the OS is 64 bits. Is your Linux on the USB drive 64 bits version?
Is the USB drive formatted as Fat32?
