  3. Depends on whether you clean install or upgrade. I upgraded my laptop from 8.1 Core (OEM embedded key) and got 10 Home. I think all the early builds were Pro. They just said Windows 10 in the watermark, no Home or Pro mentioned. Now for me it shows Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro in the watermark and on the system page.

Every body and there dog will be signing up because W10 will be FREE for the first year and M$ is making sure every body is aware of that.

  5. It's a free upgrade in the first year. Anybody running the preview gets to upgrade to RTM too. I just haven't seen it said officially, that if you clean install the preview you get a free license past the end of the trial period. A lot of these tweets etc are posted completely out of context, and then its implied that they mean something they really don't. It makes it really hard to keep track of what's actually fact and what's fiction.

I think that part of the problem is some are trying to read between the lines where there are no lines to read between and that creates the confusion. No matter how clear MS says anything someone will try to intrepid another way for some reason.,

I agree, sometimes it comes down to if their an optimist or pessimist. And a few just want to spread false rumors.

  9. Add to this the fact that so many people seem to be getting concerned about things and trying to find out answers now, rather than waiting for the rumour-mill to settle down, and the confusion to clear.

There is so much speculation going on right now. No-one will really know what is happening until MS make final announcements and clarifications. And even then, the real techie people will find ways to achieve a lot of what they need to, as they always do.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to try out W10 before release and - for the first time ever - get familiar with a new OS before I actually need to use it, rather than needing to do something quickly and no longer knowing how anything works. For me this is a plus. And I have a year to choose when to upgrade to the new OS, so I can make sure any remaining early glitches are sorted out, and see that things are working (relatively) smoothly, before taking the plunge. Another plus.

The thing that really concerns me is that it appears that as a Core user I may no longer have any control over updates. But if that turns out to be the case, I will have to live with it (as many people do already, not realising they could change things). And only MS can confirm or refute this for me.

Some years ago there was a dreadful advertising campaign in the UK featuring Michael Winner. The strapline was 'Calm down dear, it's only a television commercial'

    So:

'Calm down folks, it's only a free upgrade to W10' *Wink
